Job summary

Senior Radiographer – Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. Great Ormond Street is a world-renowned tertiary referral specialist children’s hospital in Central London. We see children of all ages with a wide range of conditions, providing a varied workload across all modalities.

This rotational position sits at the core of the Service and offers opportunity to be part of a high quality and respected department. The role suits those with postgraduate radiography experience looking to develop specialist paediatric radiography skills and to utilise their clinical skills in a supportive and innovative department, where maintaining an excellent diagnostic service to patients and families is key.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and strong communication and teamwork are essential. Applications are invited from experienced radiographers wishing to expand their horizons in an exciting and challenging role within our Radiology department. The CCC will have an entire imaging floor with state of the art technology including CT, MRI and PET-CT scanners.

Main duties of the job
  • Carry out all aspects of paediatric radiographic examinations as directed by the Superintendent Radiographer or senior staff on a rotational basis.
  • Carry out radiographic examinations in line with departmental protocols and Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 guidelines.
  • Assist with supervision of student radiographers on study placement within the Trust.
  • Assist with induction and training of new staff in the department.
  • Be familiar with departmental administration systems and data entry onto EPIC.
  • Promote good working relationships and teamwork with the multidisciplinary team within Radiology and with clinical teams and ward staff to ensure timely investigations.
  • Work in accordance with IRR (2017) and IR(ME)R 2017.
  • Take responsibility for radiation protection of staff, patients and carers.

  • Essential – BSc in Radiography/Diagnostic Imaging or equivalent; HCPC registration to practice

Experience/Knowledge and awareness
  • Essential – Demonstrable post-registration clinical diagnostic imaging experience; experience in multiple modalities; knowledge of GDPR, IRR/IR(ME)R 2017, clinical governance, quality assurance; experience of clinical audit; experience teaching/supervising junior diagnostic imaging professionals
  • Desirable – Post-registration paediatric diagnostic imaging experience; knowledge of PACS/EPIC; NHS diagnostic imaging experience
Skills and abilities
