Xairos Systems, Inc. in Cambridge, UK, is seeking a Senior Quantum Scientist to lead the deployment of its Quantum Time Transfer technology and to integrate quantum communication, cold atom and quantum clock subsystems.
You will invent, analyse feasibility, and test novel protocols and systems for advanced quantum timing applications. You will translate complex quantum data into clear technical recommendations, mentor team members, and drive R&D projects up to TRL maturity, in a fast-paced,
Xairos is building a quantum-enabled Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) system. Our Quantum Time Transfer (QTT) technology delivers sub-nanosecond timing accuracy with resilience to GPS jamming and spoofing. We'vepartnered with ESA, UKRI, NASAand others to develop this core capability and now we are starting to deliver it to the customers and partners who need it.
Xairos UK is seeking aSenior Quantum Scientist to help deliver the deployment of its Quantum Time Transfer technology. In particular, you develop and build quantum technology systems where you will integrate quantum communication, cold atom and quantum clock subsystems to develop the company's quantum networking capability. You will invent, perform feasibility analysis and test novel protocols, systems and techniques in advanced quantum timing applications. Through your knowledge of quantum physics and as a practical implementer you will apply systems engineer skills to advancing R&D up the TRL ladder and provide key inputs into company roadmap activities.
Lead complex scientific research projects from initial concept and experimental design through to implementation, analysis, reporting and technical recommendations.
Work with key partners to develop quantum technologies into novel timing applications.
Background in quantum physics/engineering with postgraduate qualification in applied research.
Experience in leading R&D projects involving measurement, characterisation and operation of quantum optics, atom‑optics or quantum networks.
Knowledge of wider quantum ecosystem and up to date with latest trends and developments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex scientific information for different technical audiences.
The ability to analyse complex datasets, develop meaningful performance metrics and translate results into clear technical recommendation.
Experience in technical leadership, and mentoring and developing knowledge within a team.
Post doctoral or industry experience in lab-based quantum technology R&D.
Aptitude for commercialisation and business development including conference dissemination.
Resilient problem-solvers – A creative and evidence‑led approach to problems, combined with sound scientific judgement and strong planning skills.
Good planning, stakeholder management, and risk awareness.
Innovate at pace – engineers and scientists who can rapidly convert their ideas into execution.
We're a small team working on a problem that genuinely matters. Telecoms, HPC, finance and defence all depend on precise, resilient timing as an alternative to GNSS. You will join a pioneering team working on cutting edge space‑based systems. Our work is being recognised: the World Economic Forum named Xairosa Top Innovator in Quantum.
Employee Equity Scheme: Share in the company’s growth and success.
Company Pension.
Additional Perks: Flexible working arrangements, professional development support, and wellbeing initiatives.
