Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor with real-world experience in delivering rail systems projects for a main contractor. The role is a contract position in Birmingham, requiring strong commercial oversight of packages across Design, Installation, Test & Commission, and related disciplines.

The successful candidate will manage direct labour and subcontracts, forecast costs, and provide contractual support to Project Managers and Engineering teams, ensuring projects meet cost and time

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified or equivalent and/or working towards a professional qualification (RICS, IACCM or similar)
  • Proven ability to manage both direct labour and subcontract costs
  • Competence in forecasting costs, measuring the cost of work complete and variances

Responsibilities

  • Providing post-contract commercial support for designated packages of work, including subcontract, materials, and direct labour
  • Ensuring projects are delivered within cost and time constraints
  • Assisting with the commercial management of various work packages, including Design, Installation, Test & Commission, Materials, Telecoms, Electrification, Power, Plant, Professional Services, Civil Engineering, and Permanent Way
  • Managing work package change control and cost management
  • Providing contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering teams
  • Monitoring and actively managing and mitigating work package risks
  • Maintaining auditable records for responsible work packages in line with contractual requirements
  • Collaborating with key partners, including finance, project management, engineering, sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients

Job description

Senior Quantity Surveyor with experience of working for main contractors who delivery rail systems (signalling, telecoms, E&P, overhead line) projects required for an outside IR35 contract in Bimringham.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing post-contract commercial support for designated packages of work, including subcontract, materials, and direct labour
  • Ensuring projects are delivered within cost and time constraints
  • Assisting with the commercial management of various work packages, including Design, Installation, Test & Commission, Materials, Telecoms, Electrification, Power, Plant, Professional Services, Civil Engineering, and Permanent Way
  • Managing work package change control and cost management
  • Providing contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering teams
  • Monitoring and actively managing and mitigating work package risks
  • Maintaining auditable records for responsible work packages in line with contractual requirements
  • Collaborating with key partners, including finance, project management, engineering, sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients
Job Requirements
  • Experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor working for a main contractor that delivers rail systems projects (signalling, telecoms, E&P, overhead line) is a must
  • Degree qualified or equivalent and/or working towards a professional qualification (RICS, IACCM or similar)
  • Proven ability to manage both direct labour and subcontract costs
  • Experience in estimating change/variations using various methods
  • Competence in forecasting costs, measuring the cost of work complete, and articulating any variances
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to manage expectations
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Good financial and commercial acumen
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision in cost or time-critical conditions
  • Proficient contractual knowledge and experience
