They are currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade – the largest overhaul of the UK electricity network in generations. This programme is part of National Grid’s £30bn investment across England and Wales over the next four years and will connect renewable energy sources to homes and businesses, modernise critical electrical infrastructure, and support the UK’s transition to net zero.

This is a North West based role, offering the chance to work on nationally significant energy infrastructure projects, delivering complex substation and high‑voltage network upgrades, and collaborating with industry‑leading teams on a programme of unprecedented scale and impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead commercial management activities on large‑scale energy infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare cost plans, budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for multi‑million‑pound programmes.
  • Administer NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including assessing compensation events, change control, and commercial risk.
  • Monitor project costs, provide early warnings, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure profitability.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships and act as a trusted commercial advisor.
  • Coordinate with contractors and multidisciplinary teams to resolve commercial issues.
  • Mentor and develop junior QS staff, supporting career progression within the consultancy.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives by supporting repeat or new client opportunities.
Candidate Criteria
  • BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Chartered (MRICS) or working towards chartered status.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on major infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Extensive experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts in a commercial or project management capacity.
  • Strong financial and commercial awareness, including forecasting and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop junior QS team members.
  • Willingness to work in the Manchester office, comfortable working remotely, with occasional travel to client or project locations as required.
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive salary and benefits package tailored to experience.
  • Fully remote working with flexibility, based in Manchester.
  • Opportunity to work on the largest energy network upgrade in the UK for decades.
  • Exposure to complex, high‑profile infrastructure programmes with national significance.
  • Long‑term career progression within a leading, growing consultancy.
  • Professional development support and mentorship opportunities.

This is a high‑impact, remote role offering the chance to work for a leading consultancy delivering critical infrastructure at national scale, shaping commercial strategy, and playing a pivotal role in the modernisation of the UK electricity network
