Job summary

A leading highways contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its team in South London. You will prepare bills of quantities, manage subcontractor relationships, and oversee contract administration on high-profile surface transport projects. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in civil engineering, excellent financial management skills, and proficiency in contract management systems. This is a rolling contract position.

Qualifications

Job description
Senior Quantity Surveyor - Highways

Location: South London

Contract: Rolling

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a highways contractor delivering high‑profile Surface Transport Infrastructure projects across South London.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare bills of quantities from design drawings using a schedule of rates and develop new rates from first principles where required.
  • Compile and agree call‑off contracts with clients and subcontract agreements with supply chain partners.
  • Lead supply chain negotiations, liaising with in‑house legal support for contract amendments.
  • Administer contracts using software, issue notices, manage variations, and ensure compliance within agreed timescales.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships, mitigating risks and resolving issues promptly.
  • Assess and process interim applications and certifications on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare Cost Value Reconciliations and present findings to Senior Management.
  • Develop monthly cash flow forecasts and support financial reporting.
  • Submit and negotiate final accounts with clients and supply chain.
  • Collaborate with the delivery team to identify efficiencies, improve margins, and mitigate potential risks.
  • Carry out internal administration, including raising supply chain frameworks and orders for approval.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in highways or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC4 ECC contracts and contract administration.
  • Excellent financial management skills and commercial awareness.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and client relationships.
  • Proficient with contract management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • You must have experience to be considered for this position.
