Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is looking for a Quantity Surveyor / Cost & Commercial Manager in Birmingham. You will provide pre- and post-contract services and lead QS/commercial projects at a senior level, managing a team while engaging with industry clients.

Job Description

As a Quantity Surveyor / Cost & Commercial Manager you will provide pre‑ and post‑contract services including estimating, cost planning, procurement, cost assurance and post‑contract financial and commercial management for projects of varying size and complexity.

Responsibilities

• Deliver QS/Commercial projects at a senior level
• Lead a QS/Commercial team and provide training and mentoring
• Write bids, win work and manage client relationships
• Represent WSP UK at industry events
• Engage in cost assurance, procurement and post‑contract financial/commercial management activities

Team and Location

You will join the Project Management and Commercial Management (PMCM) team based in The Mailbox, Birmingham City Centre, within the Civil Infrastructure and Utilities group and collaborate with colleagues across multiple sectors.

Essential Qualifications

• MRICS, Associate RICS or actively pursuing a professional qualification
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of QS/Cost and Commercial competencies required by relevant professional institutions
• Senior‑level management, project leadership and delivery experience (where applicable)

Desirable Qualifications

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a keen attention to detail
• Adaptable and flexible workload approach
• Alternative or relevant professional qualification (e.g. CICES, AcostE) or in progress
• Experience in the public sector and/or heavy industry projects
• Willingness and ability to travel to site, client/project team offices, WSP offices and project locations
• Passion for making a difference and dynamic teamwork
• Degree or similar higher‑education qualification
• Proven organisational and time‑management skills, able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
• Innovative mindset, willing to challenge the status quo
• Familiarity or working knowledge of specialist software such as CostX and CEMAR
• Working knowledge/experience of NEC Contracts and other industry‑standard contract forms
• Collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders
• Prior QS/Cost and Commercial Management experience in a consultant, contractor or client organisation – particularly in water, energy, environment, infrastructure, or transportation sectors
