Job summary

J. Murphy & Sons Ltd is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support energy projects on the Western Isles cable scheme. The position is based at Tornagrain (IV2 7AE) until January 2027, with relocation to Jamestown (IV14 9ED) thereafter.

You will manage commercial aspects of major projects, oversee sub-contracts and change controls, and prepare comprehensive valuation and cost reports. NEC contracts expertise and RICS/ICES progression are preferred.

Qualifications

• HND/Degree qualification.
• Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or a Quantity Surveyor aiming to step up.
• Solid experience with NEC Contracts.
• Registered with RICS / ICES and working towards chartership.
• Experience in construction/engineering/commercial environments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee commercial management of major projects including sub-contracts, change management and reporting.
• Ensure site team adheres to group procedures and governance.
• Prepare valuations/applications for payment with full supporting documentation.
• Oversee cost reports to the client with contractually compliant documentation.
• Manage subcontract and material procurement schedules.
• Administer subcontractor/supplier accounts through to final accounts.
• Contract administration including change management and registers.
• Identify costs, commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering.
• Apply cost allocation/coding for internal and external requirements.
• Measure quantities per standard methods.

A Day in the life of a Senior Quantity Surveyor:

• Oversee for the commercial management of a major project (or projects) including managing/negotiating sub-contracts, change management, commercial reporting etc.
• Ensure the site team adheres to group procedures and governance
• Management of internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required
• Preparation of Valuations/Applications for Payment with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contract
• Oversee Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant supporting documentation
• Management of subcontract and material procurement schedules
• Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts
• Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers
• Manage costs whilst identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change
• Use the cost allocation/coding which satisfies both internal and external requirements
• Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required
