Job summary

Skilled Careers is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial management for social housing refurbishment and capital works contracts in the Northern region. The role is based from Boston or Grimsby with travel across the Northern portfolio, collaborating with operational and commercial teams to maximise financial performance.

Ideal candidates will have extensive QS or commercial management experience in refurbishment or capital works, strong contractual knowledge and proficient Excel

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor or similar commercial position.
  • Experience working on refurbishment, construction or property services contracts.
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Good understanding of contract conditions.
  • Experience with management accounts, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Strong Excel skills including formulas, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and Pivot Tables.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and manage commercial risks.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the commercial performance of social housing refurbishment and capital works contracts.
  • Ensuring the business secures its full contractual entitlement.
  • Monitoring project costs, revenue and profitability against budgets.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate cash flow forecasts and revenue profiles.
  • Supporting monthly financial reporting, forecasting and commercial governance.
  • Maximising cash flow through applications, invoicing and client queries.
  • Managing subcontractor orders, procurement and commercial relationships.
  • Identifying commercial risks and potential disputes early.
  • Supporting resolution of contractual and commercial disputes.
  • Providing contractual and commercial advice to operational teams.
  • Reviewing contract conditions and ensuring obligations are understood.
  • Supporting development of junior commercial team members.
  • Working with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Providing accurate commercial information to support business decisions.

Senior Quantity Surveyor - Social Housing Refurbishment

The Opportunity

A leading property services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its established Northern commercial team. The business delivers a range of social housing refurbishment, capital works and retrofit programmes, and this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take a senior commercial position within a supportive and well-established team.The role can be bas e from either Boston or Grimsby, with travel required across the wider Northern contract portfolio.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of established social housing refurbishment and capital works contracts, working closely with operational and commercial teams to ensure financial and contractual performance is maximised.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the commercial performance of social housing refurbishment and capital works contracts.

About You

The successful candidate will have previous experience working in a Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management position, ideally within social housing, property services, planned maintenance, refurbishment or capital works.You will ideally have experience of managing commercial functions across established, multi-disciplinary contracts and be confident dealing with both operational and client-facing responsibilities.

Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor or similar commercial position.
  • Experience working on refurbishment, construction or property services contracts.
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Good understanding of contract conditions.
  • Experience with management accounts, forecasting and financial reporting.
