Job description

A precision engineering business with a focus on small batches, exotic materials and a desire to be the best, is looking for a Senior Quality Inspector. The business has grown from £1 M sales in 2020 to £3 M this year. This growth has been facilitated by significant investment in machines, people and the business infrastructure. This growth is now set to accelerate as they have secured a number of new motorsport customers, and now have a need for a senior inspector to join the team.

Key functions of the role

will be to ensure all new customers get the service they need from day one:

  • Inspecting parts, primarily using Sylvac laser scanning machine, to create sample reports
  • Support the admin team in uploading delivery and quality documentation to various customer emails and portals
  • Manage concession requests, and NCRs if needed
  • Provide PPAP and similar documentation if required
  • Manage the existing calibration system
  • Oversee the laser etching of parts as required using Keyence machine
  • Oversee the NDT inspection (UT and MPI) of components. If the person has NDT qualifications in MPI, UT or Dye Pen to level 2 that would be useful
  • Oversee sub contractors quality and delivery performance
  • Support the manufacturing team in doing 1st offs
  • Being the main contact for our ISO 9001 audits
  • Developing systems to improve the quality of parts, developing employee's skills in that area

As a small team of 30, the person needs to be a strong team player willing to support the business wherever they are needed. Helping production when the impossible deadlines are asked for, going above and beyond to enable the business to grow.

This is a new role for the business and as a result the person will have some freedom to create systems and processed themselves. The business is ISO 9001 certified and have high quality standards but are always looking to learn and improve.

The successful candidate will probably have some engineering experience, be very comfortable using IT systems, portals, and communicating with customers on a regular basis. ISO 9001 or TS16949 experience is a must
