Job summary

A leading Civil Engineering company in the UK is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor responsible for estimating and controlling costs across projects. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in shafts and tunnelling, strong communication skills, and at least 5 years of QS experience, with a commitment to Health, Safety, and Wellbeing. This role is based in Rugby and includes various site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting.
  • Preparation of valuations/applications for payment.
  • Preparation of Cost Reports to the Client.
  • Management of subcontract and material procurement schedules.
  • Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts.
  • Contract administration including change management.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Utilisation of the costing system.

Skills

Experience in shafts and tunnelling
IChemE experience
Commercially astute with knowledge of standard forms of contract
Strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications
Good communication skills
5+ years QS experience

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor who will be responsible for estimating and controlling costs for our project, ensuring that structures meet legal and quality standards. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved at every stage of a project. You will be based at our office in Rugby and be able to visit various sites within the North of England.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required
  • Preparation of valuations/applications for payment with supporting documentation in accordance with the contract
  • Preparation of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant supporting documentation
  • Preparation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules
  • Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts
  • Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change
  • Utilise the costing system
  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required
Qualifications
  • Experiance in shafts and tunnelling
  • Experiance IChemE
  • Commercially astute with knowledge of standard forms of contract and standard methods of measurement
  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications (Word/Excel/Outlook/Powerpoint)
  • Good communication skills including presentations and ability to negotiate and persuade others
  • Have at least 5 years QS experience and ideally a minimum of a 2 years as a SQS
