The ideal candidate will be a hard‑working, adaptable and personable QESH Manager with a strong technical background within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Operating in a busy environment and reporting into the Site Director, you will have strong evidence of managing a QESH team in a similar facility

Key Responsibilities
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Product Management, Manufacturing, and Distribution to implement process improvements that enhance site safety, product quality, and environmental sustainability.
  • Work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment between operations, engineering, and corporate objectives.
Business Planning & Budget Management
  • Lead the development of the site’s bottom‑up Annual Business Plan , ensuring clear alignment with SQE priorities.
  • Manage budgets throughout the year, including labor, laboratory upgrades, and key compliance initiatives.
Technical & Operational Excellence
  • Provide expert engineering guidance to resolve complex challenges, ensuring solutions meet safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Oversee the Quality Management System (QMS) and EHS programs, embedding a “right‑first‑time” mindset across all teams.
  • Monitor and act on key safety and quality KPIs to drive continuous improvement in yield, waste reduction, and performance.
Leadership & Culture
  • Lead and develop the on‑site QESH function, setting strategic direction in alignment with business goals.
  • Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and innovation across all levels of the organization.
  • Mentor and coach teams in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Health & Safety, Environmental Management, and Compliance.
Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure adherence to local regulatory requirements (e.g., HSE, Environment Agency) and global standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 45001, GMP, and HACCP.
  • Oversee systems for product release, investigations, root cause analysis (RCA), and CAPA management.
  • Lead and prepare for internal and external audits, acting as the site’s primary contact for regulators and key customers.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to identify and apply innovative solutions that enhance site performance.
  • Lead incident investigations and embed key learnings to strengthen processes and prevent recurrence.
  • Promote the adoption of safe and sustainable technologies to support long‑term business and environmental objectives.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external partners, including regulatory authorities, customers, unions, and corporate teams.
  • Collaborate with People & Culture, Engineering, and Operations to embed best practices in training, onboarding, and employee engagement.
Key Requirements
Education
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Life Sciences, Chemical Engineering , or a related technical discipline.
Experience & Expertise
  • Proven experience in Quality and / or Safety leadership roles , ideally within FMCG or pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Demonstrated success leading cross‑functional teams and operating effectively within a matrixed organization.
  • Strong track record in Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) compliance, Quality Management Systems (QMS), and regulatory audit.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing regulatory frameworks and safety standards (e.g. PUWER, LOTO); formal qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH are highly advantageous.
  • Skilled in risk management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Solid understanding of statistical process control, customer complaint management, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, capable of engaging effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Experienced in balancing strategic priorities with tactical, day‑to‑day decision‑making in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Recognized for leadership excellence, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a results‑driven culture.
  • Ability to navigate complex challenges, align competing objectives, and drive consensus‑based solutions.
