Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Senior Project Manager – Nature to deliver a portfolio of offsite nature restoration schemes and provide governance, reporting and budgeting expertise across a complex programme.

You will lead a team of Nature Delivery Managers to drive risk management and establish end-to-end governance and financial controls supporting Biodiversity Net Gain commitments in Northern Scotland and the Islands.

Qualifications

• Experience of project management processes, contract management, and technical reporting for a diverse portfolio of projects with multiple external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of successful delivery across progress, risks, mitigations, costs and programme.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of Nature Delivery Managers to deliver a portfolio of offsite nature restoration schemes for Biodiversity Net Gain, Peatland Restoration, and Ancient Woodland Restoration.
• Drive programme and risk management to ensure delivery is on time and on budget, developing strategies for delivery and following best practice processes.
• Develop and implement rigorous governance approaches, owning end-to-end governance of portfolio offsite nature restoration schemes, ensuring approvals and reporting guidelines are met.
• Collaborate with the Natural Capital Manager, Finance, and wider team to drive budgeting, forecasting and spend tracking with financial rigour.
• Build and maintain relationships with landowners, internal and external stakeholders, and communities to support sustainable delivery.

The role

SSEN are looking for a Senior Project Manager – Nature to deliver a portfolio of offsite nature restoration schemes, and provide expertise in governance, reporting and budgeting of a complex portfolio of nature restoration works.

The Senior Project Manager – Nature is a pivotal and senior role in the Nature Delivery Team whereby the successful candidate will play an important part in delivering SSEN Transmission’s Nature Strategy and Biodiversity Net Gain commitments.

Travel will be expected across Northern Scotland and the Islands.

You will:

• Manage a team of Nature Delivery Managers, to deliver a portfolio of offsite nature restoration schemes for Biodiversity Net Gain, Peatland Restoration, and Ancient Woodland Restoration through the full development and delivery cycle.
• Drive programme and risk management to ensure that offsite nature restoration is delivered on time and on budget, working to develop and implement strategies for delivery whilst establishing and following best practice processes.
• Develop and implement rigorous governance approaches, owning the end-to-end governance of portfolio offsite nature restoration schemes, ensuring all business approvals are delivered and reporting guidelines are met.
• Work with the Natural Capital Manager, Finance, and the wider nature team to drive excellent budgeting, forecasting and spend tracking to ensure that appropriate financial rigour is applied to offsite nature restoration
• Build, develop and maintain productive and enduring relationships with landowners, a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and communities to support the sustainable delivery of the schemes that you are responsible for.

You have

• Experience of project management processes, contract management, and technical reporting for a diverse portfolio of projects with multiple external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of successful delivery across progress, risks, mitigations, costs and programme.
• Proven ability to manage high-performance teams driving accountability and delivery
• Experience of budget management and spend reporting for large capital projects.
• Interest in nature restoration schemes in Northern Scotland, nature markets, and regulatory requirements of nature restoration.
