A leading UK main contractor is seeking a Senior Project Manager to oversee a major gas-terminal upgrade project on the Norfolk coast. This role involves coordinating between design and operational teams while ensuring safety and quality standards are met. Candidates should have substantial experience in construction or energy projects and must possess excellent communication skills. The company offers health benefits, professional development pathways, and hybrid working options depending on project conditions.
Working on behalf of a leading UK main contractor, we are seeking a Senior Project Manager to oversee the delivery of a major gas‑terminal upgrade project on the Norfolk coast. This strategic programme incorporates complex asset‑health works, new process‑plant installations and interfaces with regional gas networks and interconnectors. The role offers the opportunity to manage high‑hazard, regulated‑environment construction within a fast‑paced delivery team, while also contributing to early‑stage energy‑transition feasibility activities — including hydrogen‑readiness and CO₂ handling studies.
Lead end‑to‑end management of upgrade works across civil, mechanical, electrical and process disciplines, ensuring programme, cost, quality and safety requirements are fully met.
Act as a central coordination point between design teams, terminal operations and internal delivery teams to align works with operational windows, outage planning and plant isolations.
Maintain robust project control documentation including the Risk Register, Issue Register, change logs, schedules, budgets, governance papers and monthly CVRs.
Produce clear progress reports and presentations for senior stakeholders, identifying risks, opportunities and potential impacts on programme or cost.
Drive safe execution of works within a live terminal environment, leading SHEQ culture, CDM 2015 compliance, audits and toolbox talks.
Lead procurement activities — preparing scopes, selecting subcontractors and managing performance reviews to ensure technical, commercial and safety standards are met.
Coordinate permit‑to‑work processes, site access planning and integration of specialist contractors during shutdowns, tie‑ins and high‑risk operations.
Support long‑term terminal development planning linked to future hydrogen, CO₂ or repurposing potential, feeding technical insights into forecasting and programme development.
Travel to the Norfolk site and regional offices as required.
Extensive experience delivering major construction, engineering or energy‑sector projects, ideally with exposure to process facilities or high‑pressure gas infrastructure.
Strong commercial acumen, including scope management, forecasting, CVRs and contract administration.
Technical understanding of gas process systems, pipeline tie‑ins or terminal operations is highly desirable.
Knowledge of CDM 2015 and experience working within the Principal Contractor environment.
Background in regulated utilities or critical national infrastructure is an advantage.
Excellent communication and reporting skills, able to convey complex technical issues to non‑technical stakeholders.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a flagship gas‑terminal upgrade with real strategic impact — if you’re driven, delivery‑focused and ready for a high‑profile challenge, now is the time to step forward
