Job Summary
The Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is looking for a Band 7 Senior Project Manager. The CRF is a Phase 1 MHRA accredited unit and the first NHS trust in England and Wales to achieve this standard.
Main Duties
The Senior Project Manager will line‑manage the project team, support delivery of several clinical research projects across multiple disciplines, oversee the setup, ongoing management and close‑out of projects, and collaborate with commercial and academic partners to develop research protocols, obtain regulatory approvals and ensure successful delivery.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide project management expertise and advice within the Directorate; handle a number of projects from initiation to closure, leading high‑priority projects.
- Ensure projects comply with PRINCE2 standards and maintain robust governance.
- Track progress against business cases, adapt plans as needed and deliver on time, quality and budget.
- Analyse complex issues, manage resources and interdependencies, and develop contingency plans.
- Develop and track project plans, including resource planning; provide regular reports to stakeholders.
- Coordinate system implementation, training and infrastructure commitments; conduct post‑implementation reviews.
- Support business re‑engineering activities and hand‑over to business as usual.
- Represent the department at meetings and events; liaise with research teams, senior managers and external partners.
- Contribute to KPI and CSF development; monitor and report on delivery; act on audit recommendations.
- Drive Post‑Implementation Reviews and Lessons Learned activities to inform future work.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
- Masters Degree or equivalent.
- Formal project management qualification (PRINCE2 Practitioner or MSP Foundation) or substantial experience delivering projects.
Qualifications (Desirable)
- ITIL Foundation qualification.
Experience (Essential)
- Specialist experience managing complex, large inter‑related projects or clinical projects requiring expertise.
- Experience managing a project team.
- Substantial experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Working with clinicians and colleagues at all levels.
- Rapid assimilation of new technical knowledge on unfamiliar topics.
- Teaching, presentation and communication skills.
- Change‑management experience without direct line‑management authority.
- Lead long‑term strategic initiatives and multi‑phase research programmes.
- Analysis of non‑routine data and resolution.
- Work experience in an NHS environment.
Experience (Desirable)
- Understanding of IT systems supporting patient care.
