Job summary

Cardiff Council is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the Major Project Delivery team, delivering a programme of digitalisation, transport and infrastructure initiatives.

You will oversee bids, budgets and governance, manage contracts and stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to required standards. Evening/weekend work and a full driving license may be required.

Job description

The Major Project Delivery team delivers a varied programme of business improvement, income generation, digitalisation and transport projects that support Cardiff’s strategic priorities. These may include procuring and managing contracts for the installation and operation of large-scale digital advertising screens, as well as delivering cycle parking hangars and lockers, road safety schemes, sustainable transport schemes, active travel schemes and other transport initiatives in partnership with contractors and other organisations.

About the job

As Senior Project Manager, you will lead a team and manage projects from inception through to successful delivery. This will include identifying funding opportunities, preparing and submitting high-quality bids, managing project budgets and reporting progress and financial performance to funding bodies. You will also oversee business cases, governance, procurement, contracts, risks and stakeholder engagement, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required standard.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for an experienced project manager with a relevant qualification or significant comparable experience. You will have strong leadership, stakeholder and contract management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and communicate clearly. Experience of local government and emerging technologies would be advantageous. Occasional evening and weekend working may be required, and a full driving licence and use of a car would be an advantage.
