Job summary

• Degree qualification in a role/industry relevant discipline.
• HNC/HND or equivalent in technical Engineering and/or Project subject.

Responsibilities

• Allocate Project Engineers across projects to ensure adequate resourcing.
• Mentor, train and appraise a team of Project Engineers to maintain motivation and skill levels.
• Assist and support a team of Project Engineers to deliver project deliverables on time and within cost.
• Organise and prioritise workload within an agreed schedule.
• Act as Project Manager when required and coordinate with engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, QHSE and test teams.
• Manage commercial, contractual and technical deliverables and act as customer liaison.
• Identify margin improvement opportunities via cost-out initiatives and variation orders.
• Control project costs and budgets; schedule day-to-day project activities.
• Instruct Supply Chain to place and expidite subcontracts and manage deliveries.
• Ensure compliance with industry and company standards and project technical specs.
• Support Sales & Proposals in tendering; build relationships with client teams.
• Support other projects in the absence of team members and assist Project Managers.

Education

Job Description and Overall Aims

The role requires someone who is ambitious, motivated and who is keen to contribute to a dynamic, fast-paced project environment. You should possess a strong working knowledge of Senior Project Engineering in a related industry. Possess an energetic personality as well as fit into our company culture and share our values. You will be responsible for a team of one or more Project Engineers and will support the Project Managers, and in some cases act as Project Manager on a day-to-day basis in the execution of projects. Allocating, mentoring and training Project Engineers across all projects in execution.

The role will strengthen the Project Department and duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for allocating Project Engineers across the projects in execution to ensure adequate resourcing is maintained.
• Responsible for the mentoring, training and annual appraisals of a team of Project Engineers to ensure that motivation and skills are maintained/enhanced.
• Assist with the support of a team of Project Engineers to ensure all project deliverables are executed within a timely and cost-effective manner.
• Evaluate, organise and prioritise workload within an agreed schedule.
• Where necessary, act as Project Manager and assume accountability and authority for all project execution phases and gates, drawing upon the support and coordination of internal group stakeholders such as engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, QHSE and test team.
• Assumes accountability for all commercial, contractual, and technical project deliverables working as customer point of contact and collaborating with internal stakeholder in supporting roles.
• Identify opportunities for margin improvement through cost out initiatives and customer variation order process where appropriate.
• Control all aspects of the cost and budget on projects.
• Scheduling and day-to-day management of the project(s) under your control.
• Instruct Supply Chain (via Bill of Materials) place and expedite key subcontracts and manage their deliveries.
• Ensure compliance with industry and company standards, including project specific technical specifications.
• Actively execute a strong SHQE and continuous improvement culture.
• Support Sales & Proposals team in tendering, where required.
• Build and maintain relationships with client teams.
• Support additional projects in the absence of team members.
• Support the Project Managers as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in a role/industry relevant discipline.
• HNC/HND or equivalent in technical Engineering and/or Project subject
• Previous experience of working in a similar role.

Preferred Experience

• Experience as a Senior Engineer with experience in leading a team of Engineers delivering on a number of industry related projects across a range of sectors and customers.
• Experienced in offshore and subsea operations and practice with successful adherence to health, safety & environmental targets in a highly regulated industry would be beneficial
• Flexibles/Cable/Umbilical Lay/Subsea construction experience an advantage.

Specific Technical Competences

• Lead the critical evaluation of customer requirements, translate, and communicate these into the organization ensuring compliance across all levels.
• Lead and monitor all aspects of project progress and performance via an integrated plan with attention to detail to ensure that project margin is delivered on time to budget.
• Understands customer technical challenges.
• Oversees the development of technical design solutions against customer specifications and challenges.
• Fully grasps all engineering challenges.
• Leads technical discussion and highlights the key challenges associated with project execution associated with offshore wind farm inter array cables, and subsea umbilicals/cables in the offshore marine environment.
• Ensures that the engineering technical solution provision is best in class and effective in respect to cost, quality and Safety.
• Identifies long term technical development opportunities.
