THE COMPANY
Reactive Technologies (RTL) is a highly innovative global energy technology solution provider with the mission to unlock the potential of the global renewable energy transition.
RTL’s GridMetrix® service offers unique stability measurement services to power grid operators (transmission and distribution), to enable power grid operators more precise control of their grid, therefore operate more safely and cost-efficiently and utilise more renewable energy in the power systems to help them achieve their Net Zero targets. RTL also offers unique grid insights and alerts to power traders through its Tradenergy® service. This enables our customers to make smarter and faster trading decisions.
RTL has more than 250+ patents granted globally, with offices in the UK, Finland, Australia, US and Middle East. To date it has achieved more than 100% revenue growth YoY and its business plan will continue this growth based on a strong global pipeline. RTL is also backed by high profile investors including, M&G, BGF, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Eaton and Accenture.
If you are a dynamic individual with a strong track record of excellence and are passionate about playing a part in the global renewable energy transition, then you could be right for our growing team of energy industry and technology experts to help our mission of delivering low carbon energy systems globally.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a Senior Project Engineer, you will play a critical role in the successful design, deployment, commissioning, and operational handover of customer solutions using our GridMetrix platform. This is a hands‑on individual contributor role with responsibility for delivering high‑quality technical outcomes across complex customer projects from initial scope definition through to live operation.
You will combine strong technical expertise with customer engagement and delivery ownership, working closely with Product, Service Operations, Commercial, and Delivery teams to ensure successful customer deployments and reliable operational performance. In addition to leading end‑to‑end technical delivery, you will contribute to the development of repeatable engineering standards, deployment methodologies, and best practices that support scalable growth.
The ideal candidate is a technically credible, delivery‑focused engineer who is comfortable moving between solution architecture, customer project delivery, commissioning and operational handover. They will thrive in a scaling technology business where processes are evolving, customer expectations are high and practical delivery judgement matters as much as technical depth.
Role Purpose
Deliver the technical execution of GridMetrix customer deployments from scoping and solution design through testing, commissioning, and operational handover. You will own the end‑to‑end engineering delivery of customer solutions while contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, deployment processes, and system reliability in partnership with Service Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical delivery and solution engineering
- Deliver the technical design and deployment of GridMetrix customer solutions.
- Develop solution architecture covering communications, control logic, cybersecurity considerations and data flows.
- Capture customer requirements and develop technical scopes of work.
- Deliver integration with customer systems, including SCADA, EMS, DMS, measurement devices and data historians.
- Plan and execute site commissioning activities, factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing.
- Responsible for the technical delivery of Reactive’s physical and digital solutions, including requirements definition, supplier engagement, design assurance, manufacture, FAT, SAT, commissioning and handover into live service, while providing engineering governance and technical leadership across the project lifecycle.
- Recommend and implement technical decisions that balance customer requirements, engineering effort, product strategy and operational reliability.
Engineering standards and continuous improvement
- Share technical knowledge and provide peer support across the Project Engineering team.
- Contribute to engineering standards, templates, design reviews, test plans and commissioning playbooks.
- Manage own priorities and delivery commitments across multiple concurrent customer projects.
- Promote safety, technical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement through day‑to‑day delivery.
Customer and stakeholder engagement
- Act as a key technical point of contact for customers and partners during delivery.
- Facilitate technical workshops, architecture reviews, deployment planning sessions and post‑commissioning optimisation discussions.
- Support pre‑sales activities, RFP responses, architecture briefings and customer demonstrations.
- Build trusted relationships with utilities, grid operators, industrial customers and delivery partners.
Operational excellence, governance and risk
- Apply project delivery standards, stage gates, acceptance criteria and quality controls, and recommend improvements where appropriate.
- Identify, assess and manage technical risks for assigned customer deployments, escalating where appropriate.
- Ensure high‑quality engineering documentation, including as‑built configurations, network diagrams, security controls, test reports and operating procedures.
- Ensure delivery practices reflect relevant safety, cybersecurity, grid compliance, utility IT/OT and data privacy requirements.
Service and reliability partnership
- Work closely with Service Operations to ensure smooth operational handover and clear runbooks.
- Provide advanced engineering support for complex technical issues beyond standard support playbooks.
- Support major upgrades, system enhancements and advanced troubleshooting when required.
- Ensure lessons from incidents and commissioning are fed back into engineering standards and product development.
EXPERIENCE
Required
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience delivering complex technical, industrial infrastructure, energy, power systems or operational technology projects.
- Technical Depth:
- Control systems and signal processing for modulation/injection; real‑time system considerations (latency, jitter, time sync).
- Integration with utility/industrial systems: SCADA (DNP3, IEC 60870‑5‑104), Substation comms (IEC 61850), historian interfaces (PI/OSIsoft), protocols like Modbus TCP/RTU.
- DER/IBR, storage, and large load control; awareness of grid interconnection standards (e.g., IEEE 1547 series), protection coordination concepts, and telemetry quality.
- Data acquisition and measurement: PMUs/phasor data (if applicable), high‑frequency sampling, time synchronization (PTP/NTP), calibration and uncertainty.
- Experience taking technical ownership of complex engineering projects or workstreams.
- Strong background in systems integration, testing, commissioning and customer‑facing technical delivery.
- Experience working with utility, energy, industrial automation, critical infrastructure or similarly demanding customers.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical topics for customers, internal stakeholders and field teams.
Preferred
- Experience with power systems, grid operations, renewable integration, energy storage, flexibility, demand response or grid stability solutions.
- Knowledge of SCADA, EMS, DMS, IEC protocols, industrial communications or data historians.
- Experience working in cloud‑based SaaS‑enabled industrial technology or engineering environments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles in operational technology environments.
- Experience creating scalable delivery processes, engineering templates or commissioning methodologies in a growth company.
