Job description
Job Summary

A new opportunity has become available for an experienced technician in Aseptic Services. The successful applicant will join a busy team working within a licensed aseptic unit that offers high‑quality services to both internal and external customers, providing cytotoxic chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies and gene therapy.

The role involves training production staff (pharmacists, technicians, assistants and trainees), ensuring induction, training and competency checks are planned, delivered and documented in line with departmental procedures and protocols. The technician will also undertake production tasks, supervise workload within the aseptic suite and prioritise work effectively. Accuracy, attention to detail and excellent communication skills are essential.

Successful candidates will have documented experience of aseptic dispensing and manufacture and will participate in a structured training programme to develop to their full potential.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Training Technician supports the provision of training for production staff involved in GMP activities, ensuring induction, training and competency checks are completed and documented. They assist with production tasks, manage operational workload, support investigations related to events in production, and maintain compliance with EU GMP Chapter 2 (Personnel). The role also includes direct line management of Specialist Pharmacy Assistants and performing duties in accordance with departmental procedures, good manufacturing practice and hospital policy.

Job Responsibilities
  • Deputise for the Chief Technician Training and Production in managing all training requirements within the department.
  • Coordinate, deliver and document training of production tasks for pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, technicians, assistants, domestic staff and other trainees.

Person Specification
Essential
  • Tertiary education including a life sciences degree or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services, or equivalent NVQ Level 3 plus underpinning knowledge from BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent demonstrate sterile manufacturing experience.
  • Significant relevant experience within aseptic services.
  • Significant experience of completing aseptic manipulation.
  • Training experience in an aseptic production environment.
  • Experience of working at a supervisory level within a clean‑room environment.
Desirable
  • Participation in a Leeds University 4‑day course in "Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines", or willingness to undertake it.
  • Experience of developing and presenting training using software such as PowerPoint.
