Job Title: Senior Process Design Engineer

Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Process Design Engineer to work with Murphy Applied Engineering covering the full range of energy sectors including natural gas, CO2, hydrogen and power transmission.

Under the banner of Murphy Applied Engineering, our in-house teams include civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical and process engineers. They design both permanent and temporary works for projects in all our locations and are a trusted source of expert advice for both Murphy colleagues and external customers.

A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Process Design Engineer
  • Review Scopes of Works provided by Clients (both internal and external) at Tender stage, managing and developing the returned Tender submission within the specified time constraints. This includes developing cost resource estimates, execution plans and project programmes.
  • Design and optimise process systems for oil and gas operations, including hydrogen transmission and integration.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, process simulations, and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions for hydrogen-related projects.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including environmental and safety protocols.
  • Provide technical support during project execution, commissioning, and operations.
  • Analyse process data to identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation
  • Provide constructive feedback on deliverables and performance of junior members of staff, assisting with the coaching and progression of their professional development.
  • Undertake site visits and investigations when appropriate.
  • Participate in and manage the successful delivery of all Formal Process Safety Assessments, including, but not limited to: DSEAR, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL.

  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, chartered Engineer with the Institution of Chemical Engineers (or similar) or working towards chartership.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas sector and familiarisation with the IGEM Suite of standards for Gas Pipeline and Installations and metering as well as other National and International Compressor Station and Pipeline codes.
  • Feasibility, conceptual and detailed design experience associated with the development of all aspects of Natural Gas Compressor Stations, Above Ground Installations and Pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with hydrogen technologies (e.g., production, storage, or transportation) is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II).
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and reaction engineering.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good technical report writing skills suitable for submission to stakeholders.
