Job summary

WSP in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior/Principal Utilities Infrastructure Engineer to shape and deliver multi-utility projects across planning through delivery. You will engage with clients, lead teams, and ensure designs meet regulatory and client needs while expanding WSP's utility infrastructure capabilities.

Based in Birmingham, you will mentor colleagues, manage budgets, coordinate with other disciplines, and drive innovative solutions for diverse schemes across the UK.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer or open/working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience delivering utility connections, diversions and utility infrastructure strategies in the UK.
  • Understanding requirements of Electricity, Gas, Water, and Telecommunications networks owners.
  • Experience with Multi-utility / iDNO/ICP offerings beneficial.
  • Ability to develop utility demand calculations for a Development.
  • Project experience on large multi-disciplinary infrastructure schemes.
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects and manage time effectively.
  • Working knowledge of BIM standards and protocols.
  • Excellent communication to engage with co-professionals and deliver reports.
  • AutoCAD / Civils 3D with 2D drawing and 3D modelling capability.
  • Proven ability to maintain strong client relationships.
  • Ability to communicate technical detail and networking skills.
  • Must be able to obtain UK Security Check (SC).

Our Development team specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from planning, through to full implementation. We provide advice to private and public sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Highways, Public Realm, Sewerage, SUDS, Building Drainage, Earthworks, Flood Protection and Utilities Coordination/Diversion for a wide range of projects and clients, which typically include Residential, Sports/ Leisure, Industrial/ Commercial, Educational and Healthcare Developments in the UK.

The team also works closely with other WSP disciplines on high profile major multi-disciplinary projects.

All staff are encouraged and assisted to progress their training towards Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the ICE, or equivalent Engineering organisations; and staff will benefit from internal and external training opportunities provided.

The management of utilities risk is of great importance to our Clients. Issues such as capacity shortages, encroachment on ageing assets and commercial opportunities are increasingly requiring a particular skill set to manage.

Your role will involve engaging and advising clients on technical utilities matters, from feasibility, understanding constraints and opportunities, through to findinginnovative technical solutions and implementing new services, diversions, and decommissioning.

If you have a background in utilities coordination and would like to work for one of the world’s premier Consulting Engineering Firms, WSP is currently recruiting for a Senior or Principal level Utilities Infrastructure Engineer.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working within multidisciplinary teams to maintain existing and developing new client relationships.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • Chartered Engineer or open/working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Civil Engineering Degree, or similar equivalent qualification.
  • Experience delivering utility connections, diversions and utility infrastructure strategies for small, medium and large schemes in the UK.
  • Understanding of requirements of Electricity, Gas, Water, and Telecommunications networks owners.
  • Experience of Multi-utility / iDNO (independent Distribution Network Operators)/ ICP (Independent Connection Provider) offerings would be beneficial.
  • Ability to develop utility demand calculations based on the needs of a Development.
  • Project experience of large multi-disciplinary infrastructure schemes.
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and effectively organise your time between them.
  • Working knowledge of BIM standards and protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills are important to engage effectively with co-professionals and deliver high quality reports.
  • AutoCAD / Civils 3D experience, or similar software, with 2D drawing and 3D modelling capability.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Have an ability to communicate technical detail effectively and networking skills.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC)
