WSP is seeking a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning & Mobility team in Manchester. The role supports a hybrid working model, combining office and home work.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the delivery of transport and spatial planning projects, ensuring technical excellence, policy compliance and alignment with client objectives.
• Focus on technical project delivery including engagement with wider disciplines, clients and stakeholders.
• Delivery of transport modelling projects, tasks and studies.
• Provide leadership and guidance to junior staff, contributing to technical capability building within the Transport & Mobility Planning team.
• Commercial management of projects and tasks, ensuring programme and budget constraints are achieved.
• Make a visible contribution to WSP’s four key pillars: People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Expertise.

Required Qualifications

• Experience in transport, development or spatial planning.
• Understanding of the UK planning system, including national and local policy, and transport assessment requirements.
• Ability to lead small projects and technical tasks, manage competing priorities and meet commercial requirements.
• Experience contributing to multi‑tier modelling projects including local junction, microsimulation and strategic modelling.
• Experience developing concept options and familiarity with UK highway design standards.
• Experience of client and stakeholder engagement, including presenting complex information clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Commercial awareness, including budget management, forecasting and fee development.
• Strong analytical capability, interpreting transport data and evidence.
• Ability to produce high‑quality technical reports and clear public‑facing documentation.
