Overview
We are working with a leading Design and Build company to offer an exciting opportunity for a Structural Design Engineer. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments and enjoys tackling unique, challenging projects. You will be involved in bringing designs to life quickly, with the satisfaction of seeing your work contribute to significant, large-scale projects. Our client operates nationally across 9 water frameworks, offering a diverse range of design challenges.
Responsibilities
- Structural Design Calculations: Produce structural design calculations for Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment plants, including both new builds and modifications to existing facilities.
- Construction Drawings Review: Review structural elements of construction drawings and models to ensure design integrity.
- Subcontractor Proposals: Evaluate subcontractor design proposals, ensuring buildability, standardization, and compliance with Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles and CDM regulations.
- Reinforced Concrete and Steelwork Design: Design to Eurocodes and British Standards, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Cross-Disciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and provide on-site support as needed.
- Resource Planning & Project Delivery: Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
- Environmental Considerations: Ensure designs take environmental impact into account.
- Staff Development: Provide support and mentorship to junior staff, helping develop their skills and career.
- Collaboration: Work closely with international teams, particularly in Pune, India, and other stakeholders across the business.
About You
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Strong background in structural engineering, with specific experience in water and sewage treatment plant design.
- Proven track record in the design and build environment, particularly within the water sector.
- Experience using structural analysis software such as StaadPro and Tekla TEDDS.
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Membership of a relevant professional institution.
- Familiarity with the design of water-retaining structures and adherence to Eurocodes.
- Strong knowledge of CDM regulations and construction health and safety standards.
- Ability to plan resources and manage project delivery effectively.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Chartered status or working towards chartership.
- Experience working with global teams and managing remote teams.
- Previous work in the Water/Wastewater Treatment industry.
- Familiarity with BIM procedures and techniques.
- Broader experience in structural design across various construction sectors.
- Experience in outline and tender structural design processes.
