Job summary

Arthian Ltd. seeks Senior & Principal Process Safety Engineers to join a UK-wide, permanent, full-time team. You'll lead process safety projects within a collaborative safety group across chemical and high-hazard environments.

Requirements include honours/master's in engineering, CEng/PEng advantageous, and experience with DSEAR/ATEX, COMAH, HAZOP/HAZID. Travel across the UK and overseas may be required.

Qualifications

  • Experience applying process safety principles in chemical/industrial/high-hazard environments.
  • Coordination/leadership of DSEAR/ATEX hazard classifications and risk assessments.
  • Experience with COMAH legislation, safety reports, major accident prevention policies.
  • Leadership of process safety studies including HAZOP/HAZID.
  • Familiarity with BS EN 61511 and QRA methods.
  • Mentoring less experienced colleagues and delivering technical guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of the Process Safety Team within the Safety Group.
  • Provide professional input across a range of process safety consultancy projects.
  • Deliver high-quality technical project work, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Support colleagues in achieving project delivery standards and deadlines.
  • Apply process safety expertise to client assignments and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to marketing and business development activities.

Senior & Principal Process Safety Engineers

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as a member of the Process Safety Team within the wider Safety Group
  • Provide professional input across a range of process safety consultancy projects
  • Deliver high-quality technical project work, ensuring it is completed on time and within budget
  • Support colleagues in achieving project delivery standards and deadlines
  • Apply process safety expertise to a variety of client assignments
  • Demonstrate broader knowledge of environmental engineering and/or occupational health and safety principles (desirable but not essential)
  • Contribute to marketing and business development activities
  • Identify new clients and business opportunities
  • Support the growth and expansion of the firm
About You
  • Previous experience, preferably in a consulting role, of applying process safety principles within chemical / industrial / high-hazard environments.
  • The co-ordination and leadership of DSEAR/ATEX hazardous area classification and risk assessments.
  • Demonstrable experience in COMAH legislation and associated compliance requirements. Prior experience in the preparation of COMAH safety reports, hazardous substance consent applications, major accident prevention policies and ALARP justifications would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience in the co-ordination and leadership of technical process safety studies to include HAZOP and HAZID studies.
  • A broad understanding of current U.K. health, safety and environmental legislation. Prior experience in legislative compliance auditing and reporting would be advantageous.
  • Prior experience of functional safety studies (e.g. LOPA, SIL studies) to include a working knowledge of BS EN 61511 and/or quantitative risk assessment (e.g. occupied building risk assessment).
  • Mentoring of less experience colleagues.
Qualifications
  • Honours or Masters’ Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Applicants with a post-graduate MSc in Safety & Risk Management or Safety, Risk & Reliability Engineering will also be considered for the role.
  • Membership (associate or above) of a related professional institute such as the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) or an equivalent body. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Process Safety Engineer (PEng) status would be advantageous.
  • Full U.K. driving licence and clean driver record
