Job description

Our client, a leading player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Avionics Engineer to join their team in Marlow on a permanent basis. The Avionics Business Unit designs, develops, and maintains complex avionics systems and products, including standard communications, navigation, and electronic warfare equipment for demanding aerospace environments. This role is pivotal in providing innovative solutions to challenging avionics design problems throughout the full development lifecycle, from requirements capture to verification.

  • Support the generation of new business by managing bids, developing concept designs, task estimation, and generating proposals
  • Design, develop, and test innovative solutions to avionics design problems
  • Maintain knowledge on emerging technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into product designs
  • Conduct requirements analysis
  • Generate documentation to support product development, qualification, and verification
  • Support the qualification and review of designs to requirements, including formal testing and analysis
  • Support, develop, and mentor mechanical design engineers within the business unit
  • Line management of a team of Mechanical Engineers, including resource allocation and work package management
Job Requirements
  • Significant practical and theoretical mechanical design experience
  • Strong understanding of electro‑mechanical product design and environmental testing for aerospace products
  • Competency with FEA and CFD tools
  • Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards it)
  • Experience managing requirements and leading project teams, including delivering to budget and schedule
  • Strong knowledge of materials, treatments, finishes, and their environmental implications
  • Experience developing mechanical design solutions across the entire design lifecycle
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
