Job summary

Stantec seeks a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to lead strategic technical direction across major water and wastewater projects in the Leeds region. You will shape electrical/EICA design directions, mentor engineers, and build strong client relationships to deliver safe, resilient infrastructure.

You will influence project outcomes, ensure engineering excellence from feasibility to construction, and work within a collaborative, high-performing team focused on sustainable water solutions

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) status or actively working towards.
• Extensive experience delivering electrical/EICA design in water, utilities or infrastructure.
• Proven leadership of complex engineering projects and technical direction.
• Strong knowledge of electrical standards, design processes and governance.
• Experience mentoring engineers and working with UK water sector.

• Lead delivery of complex electrical and EICA design solutions for infrastructure projects.
• Act as technical authority on design standards, approaches and project delivery.
• Oversee production and review of key deliverables: SLDs, cable diagrams, network diagrams, specs, control philosophies.
• Collaborate with clients, project managers, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
• Provide mentorship and leadership to engineers across Leeds and regional teams.
• Contribute to business growth through client relationships, bids and improvement initiatives.

We're looking for a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing Water business in Leeds. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer looking to influence technical direction, strengthen our regional capability and play a key role in delivering major water infrastructure across Yorkshire and the wider UK. Working alongside industry-leading specialists, you'll have the opportunity to shape project outcomes, develop future technical leaders and build strong relationships with key clients and delivery partners.

About The Role

As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you'll provide strategic technical leadership across complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring engineering excellence from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support.

You Will

• Lead the delivery of complex electrical and EICA design solutions across major infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
• Act as a technical authority, providing guidance on design standards, engineering approaches and project delivery.
• Oversee the production and review of key deliverables including Single Line Diagrams, Block Cable Diagrams, Network Infrastructure Diagrams, technical specifications and control philosophies.
• Collaborate with clients, project managers, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated engineering outcomes.
• Provide technical mentorship and leadership to engineers, supporting capability development across the Leeds and wider regional team.
• Contribute to business growth through client relationships, framework delivery, bids and continuous improvement initiatives.

As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you'll help shape the delivery of major water infrastructure programmes across Yorkshire and the wider UK. Your expertise will support clients in delivering safer, more efficient and sustainable assets while responding to increasing environmental, operational and regulatory challenges.

Beyond technical delivery, you'll help strengthen Stantec's Electrical Engineering capability in Leeds, developing people, driving innovation and sharing knowledge across the wider business. Your leadership will contribute to projects that improve resilience, protect the environment and deliver lasting benefits for communities.

ABOUT YOU Essential

• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) or actively working towards
• Extensive experience delivering electrical or EICA design within water, utilities, infrastructure or related sectors.
• Proven experience leading complex engineering projects and providing technical direction.
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering standards, design processes and technical governance.
• Experience mentoring, developing and supporting engineers.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence clients, stakeholders and project teams.
• Experience working within the UK water sector.
