Job description
Principal & Senior Electrical Consulting Engineers

Various locations, nationwide in UK

Sector: Power Systems / Energy Transition / HV Engineering

Overview

We’re supporting a global engineering consultancy as they strengthen their UK Power Systems team and we’re looking to speak with both Principal and Senior Electrical Consulting Engineers who want to play a meaningful role in the UK and international energy transition.

This team delivers complex, high-impact projects across transmission, distribution, generation and emerging low-carbon technologies. If you enjoy solving problems that genuinely matter and want to work with people who think long-term, this will suit you well.

The Role

You’ll be joining a multi-disciplinary group working on major power system projects across the UK and Europe. This is consulting in its truest form: technical depth, client trust and the chance to influence how modern power networks are designed, delivered and operated.

Depending on your level, responsibilities include:

As a Principal Engineer
  • Acting as technical lead on major transmission, distribution and generation projects.
  • Leading the design, specification and integration of high-voltage systems (substations, cable systems, transformers, switchgear, reactive compensation).
  • Delivering FEED and conceptual studies, due-diligence work and Owner’s Engineer roles.
  • Providing expert input across protection and control, equipment selection and system performance.
  • Supporting FAT, SAT, commissioning and construction activities.
  • Building strong client relationships and contributing to business development.
  • Mentoring and developing engineers across UK and international offices.
As a Senior Engineer
  • Supporting the delivery of HV system designs and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Producing specifications, calculations and technical documentation for HV equipment.
  • Carrying out system studies and protection coordination work.
  • Supporting FEED studies, grid-connection activities and installation/commissioning support.
  • Collaborating closely with internal teams, clients and external stakeholders.

We’re keen to speak with engineers who have a strong grounding in power systems and are confident working on complex HV infrastructure. You’ll ideally bring experience from major data centres, power stations or substations, or similar large-scale electrical infrastructure projects.

You should also have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng/BSc minimum; MSc/MEng ideal).
  • Experience in transmission, distribution or generation projects.
  • A solid understanding of the UK electricity sector and regulatory environment.
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following:
    • HV plant and equipment (switchgear, transformers, harmonic filters, reactive compensation)
    • Power cable system design
    • Protection and control
  • Experience with HV infrastructure design, specification, construction, testing or operation.
  • Consulting, client-facing or advisory experience — or the appetite to step into that world.
  • Chartered status (CEng) or working towards it.
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive salary and performance-linked benefits
  • Hybrid working with genuine flexibility
  • Generous holiday allowance with the option to purchase extra leave
  • Private medical cover, pension and income protection
  • Family-friendly and inclusive policies
  • Professional development support, including chartership
  • International project exposure and long-term career pathways
  • A collaborative, people-first culture
Interested?

If you’re a Senior or Principal Engineer looking to work on complex, meaningful projects that support the global energy transition, we’d love to hear from you.

You must be based in the UK and be happy with Hybrid working. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
