Overview

Birmingham Children’s Trust is looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior Practitioner to join our Safeguarding Team. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role in one of the largest and most dynamic children's services in the UK, working to protect and support children and families across Birmingham.

As a Senior Practitioner, you will play a key role in managing complex cases, supporting social workers, and ensuring high-quality practice. You will provide expert guidance, helping to shape decisions that lead to the best outcomes for children at risk. Responsibilities
  • Manage a complex caseload, ensuring effective safeguarding interventions and positive outcomes for children.
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to less experienced social workers, supporting their development and ensuring best practice.
  • Lead on multi‑agency safeguarding meetings, case conferences, and court proceedings, offering expert social work input.
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure care planning is effective, child‑focused, and in line with statutory requirements.
  • Work in partnership with families, schools, health services, and other agencies to provide a holistic approach to safeguarding.
  • Contribute to service development, helping to improve and embed high‑quality social work practice within the team.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Degree in Social Work and registration with Social Work England.
  • Experience: Substantial post‑qualification experience in safeguarding, child protection, and statutory social work.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, risk assessment, and decision‑making skills.
  • Knowledge: In‑depth understanding of child protection legislation, safeguarding procedures, and best practices.
  • Other Requirements: A commitment to professional development and improving outcomes for children and families.
