About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and committed Senior Practitioner to join our Referral & Assessment ("front door") Team within Children’s Social Care. This role will see you undertaking statutory assessments (under the Children Act 1989) for children and families referred for help, support or protection. You’ll lead on complex cases, make sound professional judgments, and help shape our service response to children in need and child protection enquiries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry a caseload of assessments (single assessments, Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries) and short-term intervention work.
  • Lead on complex cases and ensure children’s voices are heard, risk is effectively assessed and plans are outcome-focused.
  • Work as part of a duty system, responding to referrals, deciding next steps and allocating appropriately.
  • Collaborate with multi-agency partners (health, education, police, housing, voluntary sector) to secure change and support for children, young people and families.
  • Mentor, guide and support less-experienced practitioners and contribute to the development of team practice.
  • Maintain high quality case records, ensure compliance with departmental policies, GDPR and professional standards.
  • Contribute to service improvement, team meetings and reflect on practice to drive continuous improvement.
