Job summary

Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking a Senior Practitioner to join the Locality team. The role involves supervising Social Workers, Students, Volunteers and Support Workers, and deputising for the Team Manager when required.

You will manage a caseload of complex cases and work to develop high-quality service delivery within current legislation and Directorate policies, collaborating with partner agencies to improve outcomes for vulnerable people.

Qualifications

  • Direct supervisory experience of Social Workers, Students, Volunteers and Support Workers.
  • Experience delivering social work services within current legislation and Directorate policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intervention and support to achieve best outcomes for vulnerable people.
  • Assist the team in meeting performance targets and monitor team performance.
  • Build effective partnerships with local and national agencies to improve services.
  • Collaborate with other Social Services teams and partner agencies.
  • Attend training and departmental meetings and provide reports as required.
  • Represent the Directorate in panels and court processes as needed.

Job description

Our client Caerphilly County Borough Council is looking for a Senior Practitioner to join their Locality team.

Job Purpose

To provide an enhanced level of social work skills and expertise within the team in order to develop and maintain standards of practice and to deputise for the Team Manager on specified occasions. This will include direct supervision of Social Workers, Students, Volunteers and Support Workers.

To assist the Team Manager in the continued development of high‑quality service delivery, to work with the Team Manager to ensure that the team provides an appropriate service within current legislation, regulations, guidance and the Directorate’s policies and procedures, and to manage a caseload of complex cases.

Responsibilities
  • Manage complex cases within required timescales and maintain a mixed complex caseload.
  • Intervention and support focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for vulnerable people.
  • Assist the team in reaching its performance targets and monitor team performance.
  • Understand local and national agencies and demonstrate positive partnership working.
  • Collaborate with other Social Services Teams and partner agencies to improve services for vulnerable people.
  • Contribute to development opportunities such as meetings, workshops and task groups.
  • Ensure effective multidisciplinary working with partner agencies.
  • Contribute to the development of quality services and demonstrate professional competence in social work practice.
  • Attend agreed training to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Attend departmental meetings and provide written or verbal reports as required.
  • Represent the Directorate in panel and court processes, including written reports, statements and giving verbal evidence.
  • Liaise and work jointly with staff of other Directorates and agencies as appropriate.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with statutory requirements and the Directorate’s policies and procedures.
Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the DBS.
