With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges.

The Position: Senior Port & Heavy Logistics Supervisor

As part of Vulcain Engineering's continued growth across the UK energy and infrastructure sector, we are seeking an experienced Senior Port & Heavy Logistics Supervisor to support the safe and efficient delivery of complex transport and logistics activities. This role will focus on coordinating port operations, heavy lift logistics, abnormal load transportation, and the movement of oversized equipment, working closely with transport providers, terminal operators, construction teams, and logistics stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Senior Port & Heavy Logistics Supervisor will include:

  • Coordinate and supervise day-to-day port operations, transport logistics, and cargo handling activities.
  • Manage the movement of abnormal loads, heavy lift cargo, and out-of-gauge (OOG) equipment from port through to final delivery locations.
  • Develop and maintain transport forecasts, delivery schedules, and logistics plans to support project requirements.
  • Act as the primary interface between port operators, stevedores, hauliers, freight forwarders, customs representatives, and project teams.
  • Coordinate vessel arrivals, berth allocations, cargo discharge activities, and onward transportation arrangements.
  • Review and validate method statements, lift plans, transport plans, and operational readiness prior to execution.
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with logistics requirements, safety standards, and delivery milestones.
  • Support continuous improvement of transport, customs, logistics, and supply chain processes.

Working within a major project environment, you will play a key role in delivering some of the UK's most complex heavy logistics operations. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects involving heavy lift, project cargo, abnormal loads, and specialist transport solutions.

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

  • Extensive experience in port operations, transport logistics, project cargo, heavy lift logistics, and abnormal load transportation.
  • Strong knowledge of OOG (Out of Gauge) cargo handling, SHLO (Super Heavy Lift & Oversized) equipment movements, and specialist haulage operations.
  • Proven understanding of UK regulations relating to abnormal loads, heavy transport, and port operations.
  • Experience coordinating stevedoring activities, cargo discharge operations, vessel logistics, and terminal operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of freight forwarding, customs processes, transport planning, and supply chain logistics.
  • Previous experience within the energy, nuclear, oil & gas, industrial, or major infrastructure sectors.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to coordinate multiple contractors and logistics providers.
  • Full professional proficiency in English, with the ability to produce operational reports, forecasts, and logistics documentation.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case‑by‑case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work.

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.

We also offer a benefits package, both standard and enhanced, which is designed to support your wellbeing, development, and financial future, including:

  • 25 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays, with the ability to swap bank holidays for cultural or religious celebrations
  • Enhanced Maternity, Paternity, Adoption and Neonatal Care Leave
  • Employee Referral Scheme
  • Private Medical & Dental Insurance
