Senior Policy and Project Officer

  • Hourly Rate: £28.42 PAYE/ £37 Ltd Umbrella
  • Location: Southwark, London
  • Job Type: Contract (Long-term sickness cover until mid-Feb 2026)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Policy and Project Officer to join our Equalities team within the Communities & Skills Directorate. This role is crucial for scoping, developing, and delivering programmes and projects related to social policy areas, reflecting agreed Mayoral and partnership priorities. The position offers a hybrid working model and is based in Southwark, London.

Day-to-day of the role
  • Lead on programme management and implementation of agreed projects, including managing externally commissioned projects and contracts.
  • Provide expert advice on Mayoral programmes, policies, and strategies, including written and oral briefings for the Mayor and advisers.
  • Work collaboratively with programme and policy teams within the organisation to ensure integration and interdisciplinary working.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key partners and stakeholders across various sectors to inform and further programme and policy development.
  • Maintain a high standard of awareness of legislative, technical, and policy changes linked to the policy/programme area.
  • Support communications related to the policy/programme area through various media outlets.
  • Contribute to corporate performance reporting and manage resources in accordance with the Authority’s policies and standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge and experience in relevant social policy, particularly within a London context.
  • Proven track record of successful project management, delivering results on target, within budget and timescales.
  • Strong experience in policy and programme development within a complex political environment.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and event management skills.
  • Proficient in developing partnerships and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, capable of presenting ideas clearly and convincingly.
