Senior Platform Engineer - Broad Street, Sheffield, England

Role Details

Location: Broad Street, Sheffield

Employment: Full-time, permanent

Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 per annum

Hybrid: Minimum of 2 days in the office per week

Responsibilities

• Help design, build, and evolve a secure, scalable, and resilient cloud platform that powers products and development teams.
• Designing and implementing highly available, scalable infrastructure in AWS.
• Ensuring cloud environments, security, and governance meet best-practice standards.
• Troubleshooting complex production issues across infrastructure, networking, and application layers, and delivering durable fixes.
• Modernising existing cloud environments and CI/CD pipelines to enhance resilience, security, cost-efficiency, and developer experience.
• Delivering Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Pulumi, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Building automated testing frameworks that make deployments reliable, repeatable, and low-risk.
• Partnering with SRE and software teams to define shared reliability goals and deliver on them.
• Championing reliability practices such as SLOs, error budgets, and blameless post-incident reviews.
• Enhancing observability with robust metrics, logging, and tracing for better operational visibility and faster response times.
• Working closely with security and compliance teams to maintain safe, auditable environments aligned with regulatory standards.
• Taking part in on-call rotations and incident response, always focused on learning and improving.

Qualifications

• Around 5+ years’ experience in Cloud Operations or Platform Engineering.
• Deep technical expertise with AWS (or Azure/equivalent), including compute, storage, networking, and services.
• Proven troubleshooting skills across distributed systems with the ability to diagnose and resolve performance, networking, and availability challenges.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as AWS CodeCommit (or similar).
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, or equivalent) for container orchestration.
• Solid knowledge of observability stacks, monitoring, alerting, and self-healing systems.
• Experience enforcing reliability and security standards in cloud environments.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• A mindset focused on simplification, standardisation, and continuous improvement.
