As part of our team, you will be helping us create an entirely new network for the world's money. For everyone, everywhere.

More about our mission and what we offer.

Job Description

At Wise, we're not just developing a product; we're redefining the financial landscape. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be at the heart of this transformation, entrusted with complex, critical tasks that extend across the breadth of our technological endeavours.

Why This Role Matters

You will be joining our Compute team, a core component of our technological fabric. This team's mission is critical: to establish a robust, scalable platform that enables our engineers across the globe to deploy and manage services efficiently.

Our platform is designed to handle immense scale and complexity, ensuring that millions of users experience seamless financial transactions. Your work will be pivotal in evolving this platform to new heights, leveraging advanced technologies and methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and Enhance Our Platform: You will take ownership of significant system components, designing and implementing scalable solutions that handle complex operational loads with high reliability and security.
  • Drive Automation and Efficiency: Innovate and implement cutting‑edge automation solutions at both the infrastructure (AWS) and application levels, reducing manual overhead, accelerating deployment cycles, and increasing system resilience.
  • Holistic System Outlook: Assess the ecosystem as a whole to identify technological and systemic improvements.
  • Active Collaboration and Leadership: While you will be deeply involved in hands‑on technical work, you will also lead projects and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to share knowledge, mentor peers, and refine our engineering practices.
  • Embrace and Extend Cloud‑Native Practices: With ongoing investments in AWS and Kubernetes, you will lead initiatives expanding our cloud‑native capabilities, from developing Kubernetes operators to enhancing our service mesh infrastructure.
Impact

Your contributions will directly impact the ease with which millions of our customers manage their money across borders. The solutions you develop and the efficiencies you create will play a crucial role in sustaining and accelerating Wise’s growth, ensuring that our infrastructure stays ahead of our customers’ needs and global market demands.

Challenges and Opportunities

This role is designed for those who thrive in environments where the pace is fast, the landscape continually evolves, and the stakes are high. You will tackle complex problems that require a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and practical execution. The diversity of challenges will offer continuous learning opportunities, deepening your expertise in a dynamic, supportive environment.

Who Are You?

As someone passionate about creating an impact through technology, you bring a sophisticated understanding of software and systems engineering. You are not just problem solvers; you are problem seekers, always ready to identify and tackle inefficiencies and challenges head‑on. Your proactive approach and deep technical acumen will help us drive forward our mission to create a world without financial borders.

How We Work

At Wise, we prioritize efficient and reliable technology, automating operations to enhance productivity and scalability. Our team structure encourages practical collaboration across disciplines, streamlining communication and process integration. We are committed to continuous learning, employing modern tools and practices to adapt to the evolving fintech landscape. Engineers work in an environment that values direct problem‑solving over fault‑finding, focusing on improving systems and outcomes. Our approach ensures that technical solutions directly support our customers’ needs and the company's mission.

What Will You Be Working On?
  • Help scale, connect, and secure our platform infrastructure.
  • Automate our core platform components either at the AWS or application level.
  • Work hands‑on in our Compute team, building a first‑class platform for product engineers, streamlining how fast an idea can be delivered and scaled into production.
  • Invest in building cloud‑native applications backed by AWS and scaling our use of Kubernetes, with curiosity and learning as key.
What Do You Need?

We understand that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required, and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. If you have some of the skills listed below and are eager to learn more, we want to hear from you.

  • Experience coding in Go and building APIs.
  • Experience building highly reliable, scalable, secure, automated cloud‑native platforms (preferably on AWS).
  • Production experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes).
Nice to Have
  • Solid knowledge of systems and software engineering fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, OO).
  • Good sysadmin skills (Linux, debugging issues with disk, networking, OS performance, etc).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, etc).
