Job summary

Kainos is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Birmingham team, shaping scalable, secure cloud-based services. You’ll collaborate across engineering, testing, consulting, product management and security to design, build, test and deploy high-quality software.

You’ll apply best practices, drive CD/CI, and mentor junior colleagues while solving complex production challenges. We value people-first culture, opportunity for growth, and active contributions to an inclusive DevOps environment

Qualifications

• Experience designing and building modern digital service platforms in production.
• Ability to design scalable, resilient, secure, cost-efficient architectures.
• Experience with AWS and infrastructure automation.
• Strong experience in CI/CD and deployment pipelines.
• Active Security Clearance is required for this role.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE BUSINESS:

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Working as part of a team - You’ll work alongside colleagues in engineering, testing, consulting, product management and security capabilities to build, test and deploy software of the highest quality.

Minimum (essential) Requirements

• We all work in teams here in Kainos – a proven ability of strong team skills, including working in a multi-disciplinary team is crucial
• Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate issues toothertechnicalpeople, and sometimes tonon-technical people.
• Significant expertise in:
• Use of multiple configuration management, infrastructure provisioning and automation tools.
• Fluency in least one of the following: Powershell, Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, Groovy.
• Expertise in using multiple automation tools and at least one of: Powershell, Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, Groovy
• Demonstrable experience in:
• Designing, building, testing, automating, monitoring andsupportingsignificantcomponents withinamoderndigital service platform in production environments.
• Producing designs that are scalable, resilient, efficient, secure, cost-effective and minimise lock-in.
• Contributing to technical decisions and direction in a collaborative team environment, including architecture, estimation, product planning, user story/requirement creationand advocating MVP.
• Implementing modernContinuous Deliveryprocessesfor releasing software for releasing software to production.
• Applyingindustrybest practicesand patternsacross infrastructure and application components e.g. security, elasticity, performance.
• Using AWS public cloudplatforms to solve business problems
• Applying configuration management,infrastructure provisioningandcontainerorchestration tooling to solve business problems.
• Using modern version controlsystems including git.
• Debugging complex problemsacrossmultipleservers, services and tools – you can find the needle in the haystack.
• Active Security Clearance is required for this role

DESIRABLE

• Third level – or equivalent - qualification in a related discipline.
• Obtained mid-level certification with a public cloud provider (AWS/Azure).
• Active participation inknowledgesharing activities, both within the team and with wider non-technical audiences.
• Experience of cloud-native SaaS and PaaS technologies.
• We are passionate about developing people – experience in managing, mentoring and coaching junior members of staff is important
