Job summary

A leading energy consultancy in the UK is seeking an experienced Senior Planning Manager to oversee planning activities across multiple Onshore Wind and Solar projects. This role requires a strong background in planning applications and renewable energy, with the ability to communicate effectively and manage complex projects. The ideal candidate should have a degree in Town and Country Planning and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, along with a chartered status. A full UK driving license is also required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience preparing and coordinating planning applications.
  • Strong understanding of TCPA, Section 36, and/or DCO regimes.
  • Experience with renewable energy projects (wind preferred).

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planning Manager to lead planning activities across multiple Onshore Wind and Solar. The role involves developing planning strategies, coordinating environmental assessments and applications, securing consents, and managing relationships with planning authorities, consultees, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead planning strategy, coordination, and delivery for multiple renewable projects.
  • Prepare and manage planning applications, EIAs, and appeals under TCPA, Section 36 and DCO regimes.
  • Identify and assess new development opportunities and provide early-stage planning advice.
  • Procure and manage external consultants (planning, EIA, environmental).
  • Monitor and respond to national and local planning policy developments.
  • Liaise with LPAs, statutory bodies, landowners, and community stakeholders.
  • Support community consultation events and planning-related communications.
  • Provide planning input to operational sites and ongoing compliance requirements.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with company health and safety procedures.
Requirements
Essential
  • Degree in Town and Country Planning or related field.
  • Chartered Member of RTPI or IEMA.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience preparing and coordinating planning applications.
  • Strong understanding of TCPA, Section 36, and/or DCO regimes.
  • Experience with renewable energy projects (wind preferred).
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
