Job summary

Kirklees Metropolitan Council seeks a Principal Lawyer to lead the Planning and Highways team in Huddersfield. You will advise officers and elected members on complex planning and highways matters, including s106 and s278 agreements, and handle public enquiries and enforcement issues.

You will be an experienced Solicitor/Barrister/ILEx Fellow with senior-level planning or highways law experience in England and Wales, with potential to grow management skills in public law contexts.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor, barrister, or ILEx Fellow with current practising certificate.
• Extensive recent senior-level planning and/or highways law experience in England and Wales.
• Ability to develop skills in public rights of way and local government law.

Responsibilities

• Advise officers and elected members on planning and highways matters, including s106 and s278 agreements.
• Handle planning enforcement and public law enquiries.
• Support management and leadership development within the team.
• Contribute to sustainable and prosperous outcomes for Kirklees.
