Job summary

Somerset Council is seeking a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer to lead complex enforcement matters across Somerset. You will investigate breaches of planning control, conduct site visits and manage challenging cases, ensuring compliance with planning policy.

You will prepare reports, represent the council at appeals and support junior colleagues, driving service improvements. The role offers hybrid working with a base in Shepton Mallet, 37 hours per week, and a permanent contract.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Planning (or related field).
• RTPI membership desirable.
• Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy and enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Lead on complex enforcement and compliance matters across Somerset.
• Investigate breaches of planning control and carry out site visits.
• Manage challenging cases and take appropriate enforcement action.
• Prepare reports and representations for appeals and court proceedings.
• Support junior colleagues and drive continuous improvement in the service.
