We have an opportunity for an experiencedSenior Planner,with experience of Planning Act 2008 procedures to join Carter Jonas’ Infrastructure Consents team. The role can be based out ofLeeds, London or Birmingham.

Our experienced and fast-growing team is already delivering on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) across various project sectors including rail, road, energy, high voltage transmission, business and commercial NSIPs. We have a strong forward workload of green energy projects which provides an opportunity to be developed and places Carter Jonas at the forefront of progressing some of the most ambitious renewable energy initiatives in the UK.

The Infrastructure Consents team has a proven track record of advising on a huge range of infrastructure projects across a wide spectrum of consent regimes including, but not limited to, DCOs, TWAOs, Section 36 projects and conventional TCPA projects. The team has managed and recently submitted four DCOs, a multi-billion-pound TWAO, and several smaller renewable TCPA applications, and we have more projects currently starting their NSIP journey.

With members of our team being amongst few professionals in the UK industry to have delivered DCO consents from initial inception through to consent, Carter Jonas is positioning itself as a leading provider of these services throughout the UK and across all sectors and is seeking ambitious professionals to join us in realising this ambition.

You would be joining one of the country’s fastest growing infrastructure teams working with some of the UK’s largest infrastructure clients, including Network Rail, National Highways and National Grid, alongside the opportunity to work with industry leading renewable energy clients and investment companies, contributing to the national energy ambitions for clean energy.

Main tasks:
  • Responsible for the provision of professional planning advice to clients on a variety of planning matters on sites across the UK
  • Preparation and submission of major planning applications alongside negotiation with local authorities and other statutory stakeholders on behalf of clients on planning applications and other planning related matters
  • Providing support to the DCO lead and work with the wider planning and technical terms on major projects
  • Written representations and supporting on informal hearings and public inquiry appeals and preparation and submission of Local Plan representations and promotion of sites through the process
  • Promoting the business at networking events, seminars and providing technical updates to the market
  • Responsible for the management and delivery of projects, including program and budgeting autonomy

What does it take to be successful?

As a key member of our growing and ambitious team, you will be able to carve your own niche, contributing to the delivery of high-quality professional services to our existing clients, promoting our services to new clients and promoting our expertise to the market working with our marketing and business development teams, and colleagues within the business.

This role would be ideal for a qualified planner or similarly qualified individual, with experience and knowledge of the NSIP and/or similar regimes, or with experience managing large and complex project teams.

It would be beneficial if your planning experience was gained in a consultancy or local authority environment where previous you have had exposure to managing different consultants. Excellent report skills are required along with a sound knowledge of planning law and practice. If you have experienced related to the rail, transport and utilities this would be advantageous.

A willingness and ability to travel throughout the UK is an advantage, but flexibility and ensuring a healthy work/life balance is one of the key ambitions for Carter Jonas as a business.
