A leading healthcare provider in England is seeking a dedicated Physiotherapist with expertise in pregnancy-related MSK conditions for their outpatient team. You will deliver care to antenatal and postnatal patients, collaborate with the MDT, and supervise less experienced team members. Wehave an exciting opportunity to recruit a dedicated and enthusiasticPhysiotherapist with an interest in Pregnancy related MSK conditions, to workin our MSK Outpatient Team. Clinically you will have the opportunity todeliver care to both antenatal and post natal patients, working closely withthe MDT and clinical specialists to achieve high quality care for thispatient group.
Aspart of a friendly and supportive team, you will benefit from a wide range oflearning opportunities to help advance your musculoskeletal skills. Closelinks with the MDT provides the opportunity to be involved with research andservice development. You will be involved in inspiring the next generationthrough delivery of education and supervision to less experienced members ofthe team.
Thesuccessful candidate will need to demonstrate significant post graduateexperience and clinical knowledge of the assessment and management ofmusculoskeletal conditions, in particular pregnancy related conditions. Theywill be required to demonstrate an ability to work both as an autonomouspractitioner, and also as part of the multidisciplinary team.
Thispost is predominantly based at St James University Hospital but the postholder would be expected to work flexibly as required by service need. Youwill be expected to be responsible for your own clinical caseload includingpatients with complex needs; delivering high quality assessments, virtuallyor face-to-face, for patients referred from both hospital consultants andthrough the staff self referral system.
Youmust have excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, withthe ability to motivate not only patients but staff. You must be organised,flexible and able to empower others.
LeedsTeaching Hospitals delivers Obstetric and Midwifery care to deliver more than8,500 babies per year. There has been significant investment into maternityservices at Leeds over the past year with additional midwives beingrecruitment, improvements to equipment and facilities as well as thedevelopment of the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service. The Pelvic Health MSKOutpatient service at Leeds Teaching Hospital receives 1,500 referrals a yearand works closely with the Perinatal Pelvic Health team promoting improvedshort term and long term outcomes for all our patients.

JOBPURPOSE
2.1 To perform the advancedphysiotherapeutic assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients within thisspecialist field who may have complex physical and psychological conditionsand/or chronic presentation. He/She willplay a key role in the development, implementation and evaluation ofspecialist physiotherapy rehabilitation programmes and packages of care.
2.2 As an experienced physiotherapist thejobholder will assist in co-ordinating the activities of the team ensuringefficient and effective service provision.He/she will be required to ensure effective communication ismaintained at all times, whilst providing training, supervision and clinicalexpertise to qualified and unqualified staff and students.
2.3 As a lead clinician in thisspeciality, the jobholder will act as a role model to the physiotherapy team,promoting quality evidence based practice, developing the physiotherapy teamand contributing to the effective management of the team in the absence ofthe Superintendent.

9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OFRESPONSIBILITY
9.1 Clinical
9.1.1 To be professional and legallyresponsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work relating to theassessment and treatment of patients in your care undertaking clinical dutiesas an autonomous practitioner.
9.1.2 To undertake the comprehensive assessmentand treatment of patients including those with diverse / complex / multipathological presentation. This will necessitate the use of advancedinvestigative and analytical skills to formulate an accurate diagnosis andtreatment plan from a range of options.
9.1.3 Using advanced investigative andanalytical skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plansincluding the development of complex discharge plans.
9.1.4 To accept clinical responsibility for adesignated caseload of patients within this specialist field and to organisethis effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and useof time.
9.1.5 To demonstrate dexterity, co-ordinationand palpatory skills in the assessment and manual treatment of patients.
9.1.6 To develop and deliver the physiotherapyelement of the rehabilitation programme, and on occasion to deliver someelements normally undertaken by nursing or occupational therapy colleagues.
9.1.7 To be an active member of the out ofhours service.
9.1.8 The working pattern will requireflexibility including seven day working to ensure safe and effective serviceprovision.
9.1.9 Usea range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicateeffectively with patients to progress treatment and rehabilitationprogrammes. This will include patients who may have difficulties inunderstanding, communication or have challenging behaviour.
9.1.10Ability to work in a stressful environment imparting complex informationregarding poor rehabilitation prognosis on a daily basis.
9.1.11Ability to deal effectively with emotional and/or aggressive patients and /or carers on a daily basis. This will necessitate the use of developedcommunications skills e.g. the ability to negotiate, motivate and reassure.
9.1.12Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informedconsent and have the knowledge to work within a legal framework with patientswho lack capacity to consent to treatment.
9.1.13To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under yourmanagement and support more junior staff to do likewise.
9.1.14 Formulate and deliver specialisedphysiotherapy treatment programmes based on a sound knowledge of evidencebased practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoningskills and knowledge of treatment options e.g. manual physiotherapy techniques,patient education, exercise classes, electrotherapy techniques and otheralternative options.
9.1.15To represent the physiotherapy service and / or individual patients atmulti-disciplinary team meetings, to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinatedmultidisciplinary service and integration of physiotherapy treatment. Thiswill include discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement indischarge planning.
9.1.16In the absence of the superintendent to represent the trust externally(locally, regionally and nationally) regarding physiotherapy servicesprovided to this group patients.
9.2 Education and training
9.2.1 To provide spontaneous and plannedspecialist advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and otherprofessionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy, and toensure a consistent approach to patient care.
9.2.2 To effectively communicate complexclinical information with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitationpotential and to ensure understanding of their condition.
9.2.3 To be an active member of the in-servicetraining programme. You will be responsible for the provision of specialistteaching to peers and juniors on a range of subjects through the delivery ofin-service training sessions, tutorials, individual training sessions,external courses and peer review.
9.2.4 to co-ordinate and deliver core trainingwithin the speciality to qualified and unqualified physiotherapy staff andstudents.
9.2.5 To train, supervise and performancesmanage more junior staff, technical instructors, assistants and students on adaily basis. This will include the use of formal appraisal documentation.
9.2.6 To provide daily support, guidance andtraining to more junior staff, support workers and students, assessing,evaluating and ensuring competence.
9.2.7 To provide highly specialist advice,teaching and training to physiotherapy colleagues and other members of theMDT regarding the medical and physiotherapy management of this group ofpatients.
Professionaland Managerial
9.3.1 Maintain and develop current knowledge ofevidence based practice in this specialist clinical field.
9.3.2 As a senior member of the clinical teamyou will be required to ensure that you implement policy and servicedevelopment changes and ensure that others do likewise.
9.3.3 To be responsible for maintaining owncompetency to practice through Continued professional development activitiesand maintain a portfolio which reflects your own personal development.
9.3.4 To communicate effectively and workcollaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to ensuredelivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service. This will include caseconferences, ward rounds and discharge planning as appropriate.
9.3.5 To participate in the staff appraisalscheme as an appraise and appraiser and be responsible for complying withyour agreed personal development programmes to meet set knowledge andcompetencies.
9.3.6 To regularly undertake the measurementand evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of evidencebased practice projects, audit and outcome measures, either individually orwith colleagues. Make recommendations for change as appropriate.
9.3.7 To demonstrate an understanding ofclinical governance and risk management and apply to work situation.
9.3.8 To maintain own continuing professionaldevelopment (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments,incorporating them as necessary into your work.
9.3.9 To supervise and co-ordinatephysiotherapy staff within your area on a day to day basis.
9.3.11To assist the superintendent and head of service in developing the strategicand operational management of the physiotherapy service provided to thisspecialist area.
