Job summary

Qualifications

• PhD in photonics, optics, physics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience in photonic device development and optical coupling.
• Strong understanding of mode conversion and optical coupling between dissimilar platforms.

Responsibilities

• Develop and assess novel device concepts for ultra-low-loss optical coupling.
• Use simulation tools to study propagation, modal behaviour, and losses.
• Apply BeamPROP, FDTD, or equivalent methods to guide design.
• Design experiments to validate coupling efficiency and mode conversion.
• Correlate modelling with experiments to verify feasibility.
• Evaluate robustness, manufacturability, and packaging constraints.
• Collaborate with external partners to mature promising approaches.
• Work with photonics, systems, and experimental teams on practical interfaces.
