Job summary

Job description

As an integrated Trust, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT) delivers a comprehensive range of services, including:

  • Primary and secondary mental health care for children and adults, including specialist inpatient child and adolescent mental health provision, perinatal mental health, and forensic services with low and medium secure care.
  • Specialist mental health inpatient care for individuals with learning disabilities, alongside specialist community support for children and adults with learning disabilities and autism, including intensive support.
  • Extensive community physical health and well‑being services for children and adults, covering prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and long‑term condition management.

The Trust was first established in 2002 and employs approximately 7,500 staff who provide care from more than 400 sites. We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our supportive and progressive Pharmacy Team at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust.

This 12‑month fixed‑term maternity cover post offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their leadership, management and educational supervision skills while making a real difference to patient care and workforce development.

Based within the Fylde locality, you will work closely with the Chief Pharmacy Technician and play a key role in leading and supporting our team of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants. You will gain valuable experience in workforce leadership, service development and educational supervision, making this an ideal role for someone looking to broaden their experience and prepare for future career progression.

Main duties of the job

As part of this varied and rewarding role, you will:

  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership and operational support to Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants.

  • Act as an Educational Supervisor for learners and trainees within the pharmacy service.
  • Help coordinate learning and development opportunities for our growing number of cross‑sector trainee Pharmacy Technicians, working collaboratively with partner organisations.
  • Contribute to service improvement projects aligned to Pharmacy and Trust objectives.
  • Participate in medicines reconciliation, audit activities, annual appraisals and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support the continued development of safe, effective and patient‑centred pharmacy services.

Person specification
Qualifications
  • TEC or equivalent Pharmacy technician qualification (knowledge of pharmaceutical service procedures obtained through NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent) plus post qualification training and 4 years practical experience working in primary or secondary care.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Evidence of CPD and lifelong learning
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of methods of data analysis
  • Evidence of ward based pharmacy services.
  • Experience of involvement in training healthcare professionals and other NHS staff both individually and in groups
Experience
  • Substantial experience of working in a range of health settings e.g. primary, secondary, physical health and mental health
  • Ability to plan own workload with priorities and objectives
  • Interest in leadership and management
