Job summary

NES Fircroft seeks a Senior Petrophysicist in Aberdeen to provide real-time and study-based petrophysical support to well and asset teams. You will contribute to rapid interpretations for key decisions, deliver reference curves, and mentor junior staff across UK wells and partner/non-UK operations.

You will interpret logs, apply FE tools, and integrate core data and reservoir information to determine rock quality and inform planning. A strong geology/petrophysics background is required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geology, Petrophysics, Geophysics, or Petroleum Engineering.
  • Strong technical skill set and problem solving.
  • Expertise in Techlog software.
  • Experience interpreting logs in geoscience or service roles (wireline/LWD).
  • Experience in well interventions and production logging operations.
  • Expert in basic and advanced petrophysical interpretation and CPIs.
  • Knowledge of FE tools (wireline, LWD, coring) and SCAL.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of LWD, wireline and related tech.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Job description

Job Role: Senior Petrophysicist
Work Location: Aberdeen
Purpose of Role:
  • Provide operational and study-based petrophysical support to well and asset teams and Explorationists
  • Key resource in well planning and execution teams including rapid petrophysical interpretation for key decisions
  • Delivery of reference curves
  • Position covers all UK operated wells, also Partner Operated and non-UK work as required
Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:
  • Real time petrophysical analysis of Op / Partner Op wells for key decision-making and management briefing
  • Undertake small (several well) to large-scale (Field/Regional level) petrophysical studies to extent and timescale requested by customers.
  • Input into formation evaluation programs including use of current or new technologies, as part of well planning team.
  • Compile and QC all petrophysical well results and data (notably FWR and final composite log) and satisfy defined OGA data requirements.
  • Maintain strong links to industry to ensure current best practices.
  • Mentor and support junior Petrophysicists and other members of subsurface community.
  • Interprets the fundamentals of petrophysics and log analysis including core data interpretation, open hole well log analysis and interpretation of petrophysical and core analysis
  • Integrates technical information from reservoir characterisation and geomodelling, sedimentary petrology and sedimentology, along with subsurface mapping and volumetric calculations, and interprets sedimentological information, petrographic analyses and petrophysical evaluation to establish rock quality
  • Any other reasonable duty as per instruction by your manager
Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc.:
  • Degree preferred in Geology, Petrophysics, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, or other Engineering discipline
  • Fully developed technical skill set
  • Expertise in corporate standard Techlog software
  • Experience of log interpretation gained as a geologist or through a service organisation, preferably a major wireline or LWD company.
  • Experience of well interventions and production logging operations.
  • Expert in basic and advanced petrophysical interpretation. Able to produce rush CPIs.
  • Good current knowledge of FE tools (wireline, LWD, coring) and their applications.
  • Good knowledge SCAL (Special Core Analysis)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of LWD, wireline and other technology.
  • The ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
