Job summary

Hoare Lea in Cardiff is seeking a Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team in the City Centre Office. You will deliver electrical design solutions for a range of projects, working within a multidisciplinary team to meet high standards for clients.

You'll lead technical delivery, develop initial concepts, engage with stakeholders, monitor resources and mentor junior staff, helping Hoare Lea remain at the forefront of consulting engineering.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering electrical design on complex projects.
• Experience with modern delivery processes and design tools (BIM, Revit, OM).
• Client/contractor/architect liaison in a design-oriented role.
• Mentoring and developing junior staff.
• Strong collaborative and proactive communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for day-to-day technical delivery of electrical design across projects.
• Lead development of initial strategic concepts to meet brief and standards.
• Regularly interact with stakeholders; attend meetings and translate briefs to the team.
• Monitor fee expenditure, resources and work delivered with the team leader.
• Mentor and support apprentices and graduates.

About The Role

We have a brand‑new opportunity for a Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team based in our Cardiff office and work as part of the largest independent consulting engineering firm of its kind. Joining at an exciting period in the Hoare Lea Cardiff journey, in our new City Centre Office.

As a Senior or Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and delivering designs for a range of project types and sizes. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and consultants delivering design solutions of the highest standard for our clients, while securing repeat and new business opportunities. A critical aspect of this role is to support and develop a team of technically competent, collaborative, and highly engaged team members.

In this key and varied role, you can expect to:

• Be responsible for the day‑to‑day technical delivery of the electrical design services for multi‑disciplinary projects across several building sectors.
• Lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects ensuring solutions are appropriate for the brief and regulatory standards.
• Interact regularly with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring a communicative, collaborative and timely approach to delivery. This is a client‑facing role, so you will be attending project meetings and disseminating/translating the brief within the project team.
• Work with the team leader to help monitor fee expenditure, resources and work delivered.
• Mentor and support our ‘next‑gen’ professionals, including apprentices and graduates.

About You

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

• Proven experience working as an Electrical Engineer or in a closely related role, with a track record delivering on a variety of complex projects.
• Experience of modern technical delivery processes, and use of relevant software/tools such as BIM, Revit, Electrical OM, Dialux and Relux.
• Demonstrable experience working with clients/contractors / architects in a design‑oriented / consultant role.
• Self‑awareness, an open mind, and a spirit of generosity.
• Experience in supporting others to develop knowledge, skills, and confidence.
