AECOM LIMITED in Birmingham is seeking a Senior OLE Design Engineer to lead high‑value overhead line design projects for major rail electrification schemes. The role requires advanced technical delivery and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Proven lead designer experience in significant Overhead Line design.
• Thorough knowledge of OLEMI and UK OLE ranges.
• Experience with isolation diagrams and earthing/bonding.

• Understanding of CDM, health and safety, and team leadership.
• Experience in 3D common data environment and BIM procedures.

Job Description

As a Senior OLE Design Engineer at AECOM, you will play a pivotal role in delivering safe, economical, and high-quality projects for a diverse client base, ensuring objectives and requirements are met. You will report to the Team Leader and collaborate across various disciplines to achieve optimal system design approaches for each project, potentially leading a team of engineers and designers.

Your responsibilities will include acting as the Contractors Responsible Engineer and Lead Designer for OLE design schemes, overseeing the production of technical designs such as Layout Plans, Cross Sections, Allocations, and Isolation Diagrams. You will ensure all designs adhere to current standards, are constructible, and incorporate Safe by Design principles, while also managing financial and program constraints.

Requirements

• Proven lead designer experience in significant Overhead Line technical design.
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience in OLEMI and other OLE ranges (e.g., UKMS, Series-1, Series-2, Mk3B, GEFF, Mk1, SICAT, SNCF, UK1).
• Familiarity with Isolation diagrams and their update process, plus an understanding of Earthing & Bonding for electrification.
• Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation CAD software and excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Understanding of CSM-RA & Health and Safety, including CDM, and experience in managing teams.
• Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience working in a 3D common data environment to BIM procedures.
• BSc, BEng, or MEng degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) and membership of a professional institution.
