Job summary

AECOM's Transportation team is expanding and seeks a Senior Overhead Line Engineer with Network Rail experience to lead OLE design across schemes and mentor junior engineers. You will report to the Team Leader and coordinate with other disciplines to deliver safe, economical, and compliant designs.

Responsibilities include delivering layouts, isolation diagrams, bonding designs, and supporting calculations while ensuring quality, BIM/CDE alignment, and adherence to design standards.

Qualifications

• Proven lead designer experience in significant OLE design schemes.
• Comprehensive knowledge of OLE ranges (OLEMI, UKMS, Series-1, Series-2, Mk3B, GEFF, Mk1, SICAT, SNCF, UK1).
• Experience with isolation diagrams and update processes.
• Understanding of earthing and bonding for electrification.
• Proficient in BIM/CDE practices and 3D design environments.

• Act as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer and Lead designer for OLE design schemes.
• Lead the production of technical OLE designs including Layout Plans, Cross Sections, Allocations, Isolation Diagrams and related reports.
• Ensure designs comply with current design standards and are constructible while meeting budget and programme.
• Collaborate with other disciplines and sub-contractors.
• Prepare fee proposals and coordinate resources and timelines with the Director for client submissions.
• Undertake Project Engineer duties for Network Rail as required by the Designated Project Engineer.

Job description

We have expanding workload in AECOM's existing Network Rail Framework contracts and a major new Electrification Scheme. The Transportation team currently has a vacancy as a Senior Overhead Line Engineer with experience working on Network Rail's infrastructure and other railway /metro environments in one of the following offices: Manchester, Swindon, Glasgow & Birmingham. Working as part of a well-established OLE team, you will be responsible for managing and delivering safe, economical and quality projects for a variety of clients to meet their objectives and requirements. The Senior Overhead Design Engineer will report to the Team Leader and work together across all disciplines to achieve the best system design approach for each project. This role may include responsibility for leading a team of engineers and designers.

Here's what you'll do:

• Provide Expertise : Act as the Contractor’s Responsible Engineer and Lead designer duties for OLE design Schemes.
• Lead: the delivery and management of the production of technical designs for OLE including Layout Plans, Cross Sections, Allocations, Isolation Diagrams updates, bonding designs, and supporting reports and calculations.
• Ensure Quality: Ensuring designs are delivered in line with relevant, current design standards, are constructible, and apply Safe by Design principles. Work within financial and programme constraints, monitoring expenditure against the project fee.
• Collaborate: Communicate effectively with other design/construction disciplines and sub-contractors
• Prepare fee proposal and agree with Director for submission to client, including resources and programme and respond to design queries during the construction phase and attend site meetings if required.
• Undertake the Project Engineer Duties for Network Rail subject to successful assessment by the Designated Project Engineer via Form F0054.

• Proven lead designer experience in significant Overhead Line technical design.
• Comprehensive knowledge and Experienced in OLEMI and other OLE ranges i.e. UKMS, Series-1, Series-2, Mk3B, GEFF, Mk1, SICAT, SNCF, UK1 etc.
• Familiar with Isolation diagrams and their update process.
• Understanding of Earthing & Bonding required for electrification.
• Proficient in Bentley MicroStation CAD software.
• Excellent communications and organization skills.
• Understanding of CSM-RA & Health and Safety including CDM.
• Experience in managing teams.
• Candidates will be able to provide the experience of working in a 3D common data environment working to BIM procedures and practices.
• Ability to develop OLE designs.
• BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (or working towards) and member of a professional institution.
