Qualifications

  • Graduate Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy recognised by HCPC.
  • HCPC registration is required.
  • Active CPD portfolio and appropriate experience as OT.
  • Rotations in orthopaedics, medical/frailty, neurology rehabilitation.
  • Experience in MDT work and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Membership of Royal College of Occupational Therapists or equivalent.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and patient-focused practice.
  • Experience supervising junior staff or students.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat own caseload of paediatric patients and maintain records.
  • Training and development of junior staff, students, and assistants; supervise others.
  • Participate as MDT member within a specified clinical area.
  • Maintain CPD and engage in departmental activities.

Senior Occupational Therapist - Paediatric

An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a Senior Occupational Therapist to work in our Complex disability Team. The post holder will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of children with a range of conditions. Children are seen in a variety of settings, including family homes and education settings and therefore the ability to travel between settings is essential for this role. Staff may also be expected to work across the Children's service dependent on service need. Team-working is an important part of this role, and you will regularly work with other disciplines and service including social care and education. We have an excellent supervision and support structure, and you will receive a full induction on commencement of the post.

The successful applicant will have gained experience at band 5 level in core rotations and have some post graduate experience of working in paediatrics and be familiar and confident with assessment and treatment of a full range of paediatric conditions.

Main duties of the job
  • Assesses and treats own caseload of paediatric patients and maintains associated records.
  • To have a responsibility for Training & Development of junior staff, students, and other staff groups in this speciality. Supervise less experienced staff, assistants, and students.
  • Participates as a member of the therapy team and the MDT within a specified clinical area.
  • Has a responsibility re own CPD and other developmental activities.
  • Involvement in identifying and carrying out departmental audit, research, or service development activity in line with local and national guidelines.

Person Specification
Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
  • Graduate Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification recognised by HCPC
  • HCPC registration
  • Active collection of relevant CPD in portfolio
  • Appropriate experience as a qualified Occupational Therapist
  • Core Rotations as an Occupational Therapist in a range of core areas: o Orthopaedics o Medical or Frailty Inpatients o Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary team
  • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists or similar
  • High level of clinical reasoning with excellent
  • theoretical knowledge underpinning practice
  • Demonstrate a good awareness of needs of patient and appropriate action to take
  • Experience supervising junior, students, apprentices or non-registered staff
Knowledge and Skills
  • Basic computer skills, including use of an electronic patient record system
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of national issues and relating them to own clinical practice
