Senior Occupational Therapist

Oxfordshire Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Abingdon Community Hospital is delighted to offer the opportunity for a full-time Band 6 Occupational Therapist within our service. If you are passionate about working in an adult inpatient physical rehabilitation setting and award‑winning team, where our goal is to enhance our patient's quality of life and health and facilitate their safe discharge from hospital, then we are the team for you.

We would love to hear from experienced Occupational Therapists who have the compassion, skills and knowledge to help us assess our patient’s and deliver person‑centred interventions which impact daily activities and functioning, improve health and well‑being and return to independence.

Main duties

• Conduct specific physical and cognitive/functional assessments and deliver interventions to support rehabilitation.
• Communicate outcomes effectively within the multidisciplinary team and to families, and externally to key organisations such as social care and specialist services.
• Prescribe equipment and assess home environments as appropriate.
• Represent and lead the service at family meetings and be aware of protocols and procedures in place to ensure clinical governance and adherence to standards.
• Work flexibly across localities and occasional weekends to meet service contract requirements.
• Prioritise, assess, plan and implement patient specific OT programmes of care/rehabilitation, analysing patient needs and making judgements about best practice.

Essential criteria

• Previous NHS or Adult Social Care experience; previous experience as Band 5 or equivalent.
• Professional Qualification (degree or equivalent) and HCPC registration.
• Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Good knowledge and skills of elderly care/rehabilitation and proven specific clinical expertise.
• Understanding and experience of risk management and clinical governance.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to function effectively across a variety of working environments.
• Current driving licence.
• Flexible working, including weekend working.
• Understanding of equality and diversity.

Desirable criteria

• Good working knowledge of rehabilitation and community services.
• Post graduate education/training specifically relating to patient group.
• Experience of supervising junior staff and/or students.
• Aware of national and local issues concerning this patient group.
• Understanding of audit process.
• Car owner.
