Responsibilities
  • To manage a defined caseload within the Early Intervention Service, using evidence-based and client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and maintain accurate records in line with clinical pathways and operational procedures.
  • To have a designated caseload of service users with OT needs and provide OT assessments and interventions following clinical pathways.
  • Support and supervise the IPS employment worker.
  • To provide professional advice and consultation to other members of the MDT, junior staff and support staff.
  • To regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on placements.
  • To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the Early Intervention and OT Service holding responsibility for designated projects.
  • To abide by the RCOT and HCPC Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree/Diploma/MSc in Occupational Therapy.
  • Post registration training relevant to mental health.
  • Documented evidence of CPD as per RCOT guidelines to meet HCPC registration requirements (e.g. conference attendance, RCOT short courses, condition management, theory updates, reflective practice).

Desirable criteria

  • Post registration qualification in a clinically relevant area.
  • IPS training/qualification.
Training

Essential criteria

  • Moving and handling training specific to clinical role within 12 months of appointment.
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 training within 6 months of appointment.
  • Equipment competency training within 6 months of appointment.
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Post registration experience as a Senior OT, including experience of working in a community mental health setting.

Desirable criteria

  • Significant experience of working in a range of mental health settings.
  • Experience of working in an Early Intervention Service.
Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of OT models, assessment and interventions relevant to client group.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Extensive clinical experience including individual and group work.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of risk assessment and management.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of the impact of psychosis on individuals and loved ones.
Skills and abilities

Essential criteria

  • Prepared to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people with varying needs.
