Job description

You will work as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist on our inpatient male later life ward providing holistic recovery-based interventions that are evidence based/person centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate and record in line with the relevant clinical pathway (functional or dementia).

You will be managing a defined caseload of patients within the team and will receive peer support by our Band 6 Occupational Therapist based in our inpatient male later life ward. We would support you to utilise and develop your skills and experience in later life service to achieve great things with helping our clients.

You will be supported by the Later Life Leadership Team and have monthly and adhoc clinical supervision by our Band 7 Occupational Therapist in the Later Life Division. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend and engage in our Band 6 Occupational Therapy peer monthly meetings and attend continue Professional Development and training to meet your needs to fulfil your role.

Main duties of the job
  • To manage a defined caseload of clients of any age within the designated Inpatient Ward with complex physical and mental health needs using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and record all interventions, and in line with relevant clinical pathway (functional or dementia) as outlined within the operational procedure.
  • To provide professional advice for junior staff and support staff.
  • To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the inpatient service with the designated team, holding responsibility for defined projects.
  • To regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on fieldwork placement.
  • To abide by the College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and the College of Occupational Therapy Professional Standards for OT Practice.
Person Specification
  • Degree or diploma in occupational therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Current Fieldwork Educator qualification within 12 months of appointment
  • Evidence of post registration training/learning relevant to mental health
Experience
  • 2 years post registration experience as an OT, 6 months of which in mental health
  • Experience of advising and supporting junior staff and/or students
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy in mental health
  • Understanding the management of a range of mental health symptoms and behaviour
  • Understanding of team dynamics and awareness of how to be a pro-active team member
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including the processing of complex and sensitive information
  • Ability to manage own workload, determine priorities and when to delegate
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance

  • Experience of Post registration in the relevant mental health clinical setting
