Job summary

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a senior nurse for the Forensic Inpatient Service. The role leads professional and direct care staff, provides around-the-clock clinical leadership, and acts as a visible point of authority on wards for patients and colleagues.

Most shifts are nights with occasional day rotation. Registration with NMC as a mental health nurse is required, along with a postgraduate diploma and enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate diploma in mental health nursing.
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
• Registered with the NMC as a mental health nurse.
• Experience in a senior nursing post.
• Understanding of professional nursing issues.
• Participation in practice development initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to professional and direct care staff within the inpatient hospital model.
• Support the delivery of the inpatient hospital model in the Forensic Inpatient Service.
• Provide clinical leadership and expertise cover across 24 hours as part of the shift rota.
• Work mainly night shifts and rotate onto days when required.
• Act as a visible, accessible and authoritative presence on wards for patients and staff needing assistance, advice and support.
• Support the holistic needs of service users, patients and carers.
• Keep clinical skills up to date and expect others to perform clinically to a high standard.
• Drive up clinical and professional standards.
• Engage staff and get the best out of them as part of a supportive leadership team.

The role centres on leading professional and direct care staff, giving the wards clinical leadership around the clock and a visible point of advice for patients and staff.
